What exactly happened to Kai after he got caught stealing the jewelry from the Mossbacher’s hotel room safe?

And how did he even get caught, by the way? Viewers watched him make a clean break from the hotel room without any witnesses popping their heads out into the hallway to see him.

Mark and Nicole Mossbacher both didn’t get a glimpse of his face during the robbery because of his face cover and hat.

He booked it until he reached the beach, far away from any of the hotel guests. So, what happened?

Kai’s storyline is frustrating for fans of ‘The White Lotus’

Unfortunately, the writers of The White Lotus left viewers hanging with Kai’s storyline. Whatever happened took place off-camera, which means we’re never going to get the full story. What we do know is that Kai’s situation deeply impacted Paula.

She’s the one who encouraged him to sneak into the room after providing him with the family’s hotel room safe code. Viewers saw her crying her eyes out, likely riddled with guilt over the situation. 

Interestingly enough, what seemed like it would be the end of a friendship between Paula and Olivia only seemingly brought them closer. Olivia reassured Paula she wouldn’t turn her in and comforted Paula as they laid in bed together.

Kai’s robbery attempt changed a lot of things

The robbery also happened to be the saving grace of Mark and Nicole’s marriage. During Season 1, we learned that Mark had an affair with another woman and Nicole was still heartbroken over it.

We also learned that Mark never felt very respected by Nicole in their marriage. After Mark intervened during the robbery to protect Nicole, her attraction to him blossomed.

They instantly grew closer to one another through a moment of shared trauma since Mark proved himself to be brave and heroic. 

Ultimately, we’re all still curious to know what happened to Kai. Did he go to jail for being caught red-handed? Did he turn himself in out of sheer guilt?

Is he being let off with a warning? We’re not going to get closure about what happened with Kai, but the consequences of his actions on the Mossbacher family and Paula were evident.
