For the third time in front of the public eye, Harry Styles has been hit by a flying object during one of his stage performances.
It happened in Vienna, Austria on July 8, 2023.
According to Deadline, the former One Directioner was hit in the eye by something that caused enough pain to make him wince, bend over, and clutch his face.
Before this most recent incident, someone threw a chicken nugget at him in New York City, and a bag of Skittles at him in Los Angeles.
Ironically, Harry sings the lyrics, “You know it’s not the same as it was,” in one of the biggest songs of this generation.
Truth be told, it’s certainly “not the same as it was” in this modern era for musicians seeking safe environments where they can perform for their devoted fans.
Several musicians have become victims of this toxic trend
In recent months, musicians like Harry haven’t been able to peacefully sing their songs without the looming concern that audience members may throw objects their way.
Many other singers have also become victims onstage. Drake, Pink, Kid Cudi, Kelsea Ballerini, Ava Max, and Steve Lacy are among the singers who’ve all become victims of this dangerous trend.
Based on Rolling Stone’s report of Bebe Rexha’s case, hers was truly one of the scariest.
A man in the crowd at her New York City concert threw a cell phone directly at her face. The incident landed her in the hospital with a black eye and stitches.
Fortunately, her alleged assailant didn’t get away with it. Nicolas Malvagna was arrested and charged for the attack.
Bebe shared a couple of pictures on Instagram to give her fans a close-up look at the damage done. She reassured everyone that she was doing alright with a simple caption that said, “I’m good.”
Stars are candidly speaking out about the disturbing trend
Musicians who haven’t been attacked themselves are now speaking out on behalf of their
famous friends.
On June 29, 2023, Charlie Puth tweeted, “This trend of throwing things at performers while they are on stage must come to an end. (Bebe, Ava, AND NOW Kelsea Ballerini…) It’s so disrespectful and very dangerous. Please just enjoy the music I beg of you…”
During Adele’s Las Vegas residency in early July, she let her audience members know exactly how she was feeling with a smidge of humor.
The Grammy Award winner jokingly said, “I f**king dare you, dare you to throw something at me. Stop throwing things at the artist!”
A fan in the crowd caught Adele’s candid moment on stage and shared the snippet on TikTok.
As of now, Harry Styles hasn’t said a word about his onstage attacks on any social media
platforms or in any interviews.
This topic isn’t something he should have to speak about in the first place, since he shouldn’t have been hit by flying objects in the first place.
The trend of throwing objects at performers has seemingly gained traction from trolls trying to gain clout and notoriety online.
Hopefully, this toxic behavior comes to an end before someone gets severely injured.
