A new study by The Ice Maker Hub reveals America’s favorite cocktails based on search data, with an Old Fashioned topping the list.

The research used Google Keyword Planner to analyze the number of monthly searches on a state and national level between August 2024 and July 2025 for cocktails.

The search combinations used for the analysis included “[cocktail] recipe,” “how to make [cocktail],” “what’s in a [cocktail],” “homemade [cocktail]” and “[cocktail] ingredients.” Rankings were based on the most searched for cocktails across the US and in each state.

To make an Old Fashioned, add one teaspoon of sugar and three dashes of Angostura bitters into a mixing glass, then add one teaspoon of water, and stir until the sugar is dissolved. A classic Martini follows in eighth place, with 132,212 monthly searches, despite not appearing in any of the states’ top five most popular cocktails.

There are many variations of a Martini cocktail; however, for a classic dry martini, add two ounces of gin, half an ounce of dry vermouth and a dash of orange bitters into a mixing glass with ice and stir until cold. Then, strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist.

White Russian ranks ninth, with 124,407 searches each month on average for this cream-based cocktail, which also did not appear in any state’s top five most popular cocktails.

This cocktail is made by adding one ounce of gin, one ounce of Campari and one ounce of sweet vermouth to a mixing glass filled with ice and stirring until well-chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube and garnish with an orange peel.

Scott Carswell, founder of The Ice Maker Hub, adds:

“These results show how classic cocktails continue to dominate American preferences. The Old Fashioned has remained popular for generations because of its simple recipe that allows quality spirits to shine.

“What’s particularly interesting is seeing the Espresso Martini’s rise to third place nationally. This cocktail has seen a major resurgence in the past few years, particularly in northeastern states, where there is a strong coffee culture.”
