When Taylor Swift fans think about her short-lived romance with Joe Jonas back in the mid-2000s, several memories come to mind. One memory that stands out the most revolves around their messy 2008 breakup. During Taylor’s appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show after the split, she revealed that Joe dumped her in a 27-second long phone call.
Up until about 2021, things between Taylor and Joe weren’t that cordial. Now that his current wife, Sophie Turner, has made it abundantly clear that she’s a fan of Taylor, it seems there’s no longer any bad blood between the exes. Their relationship and breakup were still enough to inspire the lyrics to several songs penned by Taylor over the years though. These are the songs fans widely believe were inspired by Joe.
These Taylor Swift songs were inspired by Joe Jonas
“Forever and Always”
Rumor has it, “Forever and Always,” “Last Kiss,” “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” “Better Than Revenge,” and “Holy Ground” were all written about Joe. Here’s a breakdown of why fans are convinced!
Swifties who were curious to learn more details about what exactly went down between her and Joe got some of those answers when she released “Forever and Always.” The song was a last-minute addition to her album Fearless, and she came up with the lyrics towards the end of the relationship.
Although they weren’t officially broken up when she wrote the song, her intuition probably was enough inner motivation to get those lyrics written down.
“Last Kiss”
Taylor’s Speak Now album included a song called “Last Kiss” which is considered a follow-up to “Forever and Always.” While her first track about Joe was obviously filled with a lot of angsty energy, “Last Kiss” gently reflects on their failed relationship referencing the month of July when their relationship began.
Taylor and Joe started dating that month which makes it pretty obvious he’s the one she’s talking about in the song.
“Mr. Perfectly Fine”
Taylor has been on a roll re-recording some of her biggest original hit songs. One of the songs she’s pulled from the vault is called “Mr. Perfectly Fine.” Fans are theorizing that this song is most definitely about Joe since the lyrics clearly connect with what she wrote in both “Forever and Always” and “Last Kiss.”
Interestingly enough, Joe’s wife Sophie has revealed high praises for the song — even though it was likely written as a diss track against her husband.
Here are a few more songs rumored to be about Joe Jonas
“Better Than Revenge”
Rumor has it, Joe ended his relationship with Taylor to pursue a romance with Camilla Belle. When Taylor released the song “Better Than Revenge,” fans quickly jumped to the conclusion that she was throwing shade at Joe and Camilla in the lyrics.
Camilla never publicly commented about the diss track until several years later when Taylor was feuding with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Camilla proceeded to post a sarcastic screengrab of lyrics from Taylor’s song, somewhat confirming that “Better Than Revenge” had always been about her relationship with Joe.
“Holy Ground”
Taylor wasn’t ready to stop expressing her feelings about her 2008 split from Joe by the time her fourth album Red was being written. One of the album notes for her song “Holy Ground” talks about when a certain someone comes to her show in SD. For those who might not recall, Joe showed up at one of her concerts in the San Diego area back when they were dating.
It’s pretty clear she was referring to him in this song once again. Joe obviously isn’t the only ex-boyfriend Taylor has written heartbreaking lyrics about throughout the course of her music career. Fortunately, they seem to be on better terms today.
