The character of Jim Halpert is mostly known for being a really charming and awesome guy. He is down to earth, totally normal, and easygoing. The people he worked with at Dunder Mifflin had an easy time getting along with him because of his super calm and mild nature.

Jim was played by John Krasinski for all nine seasons of the show between 2005 and 2013. John Krasinski perfectly embodied the totally mellow characteristics of Jim Halpert in each and every episode of the show.

Jim worked as a salesman at the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin. He briefly worked at the Stamford location before transferring back to Scranton but regardless of where he was located, he never really enjoyed his job.

Selling paper never interested him and he mentioned that in the very first episode of the show. He even made the claim that talking about what he had to do on a daily basis made him bored.

You Dream About Landing A Better Opportunity At A Different Job Someday

By the end of the show, viewers discovered that Jim was planning to leave Dunder Mifflin to work at Athlead, a sports marketing firm. The entire time that he worked at Dunder Mifflin, he wanted to leave the company and work somewhere else that he was passionate about selling paper was boring to him but working in sports marketing was exciting for him.

In the video game that he played to spy on Dwight Schrute called Second Life, Jim created his own avatar to be a sportswriter in Philly!

Jim’s crush on Pam Beesly pretty much consumed his life while he worked as a salesman seeing her behind the receptionist desk. She was engaged to marry someone else but that didn’t get in the way of Jim’s massive crush on her. Their friendship grew really strong during that time and a huge reason why is that he was crushing on her and silently hoping that she would open her eyes and feel the same way about him at some point.

Eventually, their relationship turned into a marriage. Luckily the relationship between them never ended in a dramatic breakup like some other characters on the show.

You’re Known As A Prankster At Your Job

Starting in the very first episode of the show, Jim was constantly pranking Dwight Schrute. Dwight was a really easy person to target because he took his job at Dunder Mifflin way too seriously.

Because of that, Jim was easily able to make fun of Dwight with constant pranks. One of the very first pranks ever? Jim put Dwight’s stapler in Jell-O.

You Do The Bare Minimum To Get By

When it came to Jim’s work performance, he consistently did the very bare minimum to get by. He never really went above and beyond to perform at a top-notch level at work. He was very comfortable making the number of sales he was required to make on a monthly basis without ever having to overextend himself.

Jim’s relationship with Michael Scott, his boss, was really good! Jim knew how to talk to Michael about pretty much anything and whenever they had conversations, it was usually super chill or even sometimes funny. Jim described Michael as being an incredible boss in the episode where Michael was moving away to live with Holly in Colorado.

You Work Exceptionally Well With Clients

Jim always worked really well with any clients he was selling paper to. Because of that, his customer service reviews always came out really amazingly! Jim went golfing with a particular client and ended up closing a sale that day because of his personality.

Although salesmen are known for being really pushy and kind of annoying, Jim was able to walk the fine line where he was still a very likable person.

You’ve Taken A Longer Lunch Break Than You’re Supposed To Before

Due to the fact that Jim never really cared too much about working at Dunder Mifflin, taking a longer lunch break every now and then was something he was comfortable doing.

One of the times that he did this was when he proposed to Pam Beesly at the gas station halfway between Scranton and New York. Another time that he took a long lunch break was when he and Pam drank a little bit too much on Valentine’s Day. One co-worker who couldn’t relate to the long lunch impulse would be Angela Martin!

Jim proved himself to be a good friend and an even better listener. One of the main people that he did this with Dunder Mifflin was Kelly Kapoor.

She was constantly talking Jim’s ear off about every little thing going on in her life from her interest in celebrity gossip to her personal relationship with Ryan Howard. Jim never really talked about himself in return though. The only person he ever truly opened up to was Pam.

You Never Intended On Working Where You’re Currently Working Long-Term

Jim never planned on working at Dunder Mifflin long-term. He ended up working there way longer than he ever intended and that wasn’t something he was too happy about.

Jim considered his career at Dunder Mifflin to be a temporary stepping stone but he ended up staying there for years and years until eventually parting ways with the company and moving on to Athlead.
