Burnout occurs due to extreme stress conditions that are prolonged for an extended period. It’s a state of mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion triggered by a stressful work environment.

Burnout will lead to decreased productivity and creativity and, at the same time, cause insomnia – among other things.

But not to worry! Burnout can be properly managed and treated. Here are three things to do if you’re feeling burnt out at work;

Take a much-needed and well-deserved break

This option can be tricky because you might not always be able to walk up to your boss and ask for time off. However, if you can, go for it.

You can as well reach a middle ground with your employer and have your workload reduced so you can better take care of your mental health.

Get some exercise

Exercise does wonders for the body and mind. With regular exercise, you can deal with stress and overwhelming conditions better. Exercising also helps take your mind away from work thanks to the release of endorphins.

Join a support group

Joining a support group with other people like you who suffer from (or have suffered from) burnout at work will help you cope. You will have insight into what works when recovering from burnout based on what you learn from the experiences of others.

Although burnout is not medically diagnosed, it is a serious condition that could eventually lead to death since it’s so destructive to your mental health and well-being. It will aggressively affect the body and mind if not properly handled.
