An island paradise is more than just laying by the ocean. Sometimes, it’s about what’s inside the ocean! Snorkeling is a great way to see what lies beneath, even if you can’t swim.

With many safety precautions that tour companies or rental companies take, everyone is able to partake in this insanely fun and unique experience.

TikToker @Travelingwithjoce agrees — and gives us 3 tips on how to safely snorkel, even if you can’t swim.

Use a life jacket

That bikini you bought looks great on you, but nothing looks better than a life jacket to ensure your snorkel experience is a safe one!

Even if you’re a solid swimmer, sometimes there can be strong waves, you can get tired out, or you can simply get a bit nervous about any elements that are out of your control. With a life jacket, you put your mind at ease and can enjoy the experience much more fully.

Stay at the surface

Like @Travelingwithjoce says, everything that you want to see while snorkeling you can see from the surface. Floating in your life jacket on the surface won’t take away from all the sights you get to see!

Use your wetsuit and fins

Fins will make you a stronger swimmer and let you cover more ground. A wetsuit makes the experience more comfortable. Even if the water is warm, it’s never a bad idea to keep insulated.

Snorkeling is one of the best experiences to have at an ocean destination. There’s so much to see, and even if you can’t swim, you can still snorkel with confidence!
