Lil Wayne established many successful artists through his Young Money Enterprise including Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga. Not only did he contribute to their success, but he also made it a point to establish familial bonds with all of his artists.

Drake and Wayne seemed to be the closest out of the bunch. Still, there have been speculations that the two may not be as close as they once were after fans noticed that Drake was not included in Wayne’s highly anticipated album Tha Carter V, released in September of 2018.

However, Wayne dismissed the rumor telling the interviewer on Tidal’s CRWN series that he had a song with Drake that “didn’t clear in enough time to make the album.”

Drake and Lil Wayne are still good friends

In June 2018, it was reported that Wayne had sold his masters to Universal Music Group for $100 million. Music Business Worldwide said that Wayne’s former manager Ronald Sweeney confirmed that the deal was for Young Money’s entire catalog including Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga.

Drake released his last album with Young Money titled Scorpion that same month. On one of the tracks on the album entitled Is there More, he alludes to his tenure at Young Money ending, rapping, “Soon as this album drop, I’m out of the deal.”

Despite all the rumors, Drake put together a Young Money reunion on August 6, 2022. It was part of the rapper’s October World Weekend Shows and marked the first time in eight years that the former label mates had graced the stage together. During Drake’s performance, he shouted Wayne out saying, “I’m standing on stage with one of the greatest rappers of all time!”

Although Drake has left Young Money and is currently signed to his label OVO (Octobers Very Own) Sound, it seems he will always hold a special place in his heart for Young Money and Lil Wayne. As of the date of this publication, Drake currently has Wayne’s picture as his profile avatar on Instagram. The rapper recognizes that Wayne opened the door for him when others closed it, so there will invariably be mutual love and respect between the two.
