It’s easy to absolutely adore American Idol judge Katy Perry. After she released hit songs like “I Kissed a Girl,” “Roar,” and “California Gurls” she solidified herself as a pop icon.
Unfortunately, her career hasn’t been squeaky clean from scandals since she splashed into the spotlight in 2008. These are some of her biggest flubs to date, plus all the reasons why the public still loves her anyway.
Drama with Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s fan base is just as massive as Katy’s fan base, if not bigger. When the two singers started feuding back in 2014, tons of people voiced their opinions across social media, seemingly taking sides.
Taylor hinted that Katy did business in a shady manner. Katy responded by comparing Taylor to Regina George from Mean Girls. The good news here is that it seems they’ve squashed their beef since then, and are now on good terms.
Sexual allegations against Katy Perry

In 2019, Katy was called out by a man named Josh Kloss for sexual misconduct. He claims she sexually assaulted him by pulling on his pants at a party after he starred in her music video for “Teenage Dream.”
A female journalist named Tina Kandelaki came forward after that making claims that Katy tried to kiss her without permission. To this day, Katy hasn’t confirmed or denied any of the allegations. She also hasn’t been charged or arrested for anything.
Katy Perry’s cultural appropriation
Katy was accused of cultural appropriation after wearing her hair in a cornrow braids style in her music video for “This is How We Do.”
She also dressed up as a geisha from Asian culture for her live performance at the 2013 American Music Awards, prompting tons of backlash.
Katy acknowledged the mistakes she made while speaking with DeRay Mckesson from the Black Lives Matter organization.
She stated, “I won’t ever understand some of those things because of who I am. I will never understand, but I can educate myself and that’s what I’m trying to do along the way. I have lots of white privilege.”
Here’s where the public still loves Katy Perry regardless of her flubs
Even though Katy’s publicly made some mistakes in the past, she seems like the type of person who’s willing to own up to whatever she does wrong.
As far as the drama with Taylor goes, they are on friendly terms now. Katy even appeared in Taylor‘s music video for “You Need to Calm Down.”
As far as the sexual allegations go, Katy hasn’t been charged with any crimes, nor has she been arrested for anything.
When it comes to cultural appropriation, she made it known that she was sorry for her actions and has gone out of her way not to repeat the same blunders since then.
Katy will always be recognized as a pop icon with entertaining songs to dance along to. She’s only human, and her willingness to apologize when she’s wrong speaks volumes about her character.
