Leaving for a trip? There’s a lot you can do to prepare yourself ahead of time. Keep these safety tips in mind from TikTok traveler @travelingwithjoce:

Leave all of your nice jewelry at home.

All of your most expensive wearable items should be left at home: accessorize with your more affordable jewelry while you travel just for extra precaution.

Drink responsibly.

Of course, it’s fun to get wild while you’re on vacation, but always remember to keep an eye on your drink or put a hand over your drink if you’re out with strangers. Have fun, but be careful!

Have a money belt.

A money belt is a great thing to have for when you’re out exploring for the day — you can keep important documents or a few bills in its pocket and put it around your waist under your clothes for safe keeping.

Don’t keep all of your valuables in one place.

Keep some money in your money belt, but make sure you always have your valuables spread out. Some in your belt, some in your wallet, some in your suitcase, some in the hotel safe…that way, in case anything happens, you always have a backup plan.

Be aware of popular scams in the area.

You don’t always have to be distrustful of people, but use your common sense. If someone is offering something that seems too good to be true, or if they’re being a little too friendly, make sure you’re not entering a popular tourist scam before continuing on with the interaction.

Always know the emergency number of your destination.

Every country has their own version of 911. Make sure you know what theirs is!

Always have a digital copy of your important documents.

You should have a picture on your phone and a printed version in your luggage… just in case!

ALWAYS let your family and friends know where you’re going to be.

Give them an itinerary, text them updates — always make sure your loved ones can keep tabs on you while you’re off on your adventure.

So get on that plane with confidence knowing that you have all the tips and tricks you need for a fun AND safe trip!
