On April 16, 2023, Ariana Grande posted a first look of her costume dress for her role as Glinda in a film adaptation of Wicked, projected to be released on November 27, 2024.
Wicked is a cult classic on Broadway that takes a look into the wonderful world of Oz before Dorthy and explores the relationship between Elphaba, played by Indian Menzel, and Glinda, played by Kristin
Chenoweth.
Ariana Grande’s Broadway dress looks stunning
Based on Ariana’s Instagram post, there are several differences between the dress featured in her post and the costumes the original Broadway actress, Kristin Chenoweth, wore.
The shape of Ariana’s bold pink dress most closely resembles what is labeled as the “iconic bubble dress.”
They both have the gown structure and are heavily layered on the skirt. The biggest key difference between the two pieces is the color, with the Broadway “iconic bubble dress” being bright blue.
The only pink costume in the Broadway performance of Wicked is Kristin’s “Popular” look, the pink dress she wore when singing the renowned song, “Popular”.
They both are the same gorgeous color and have some layering. However, the length of the Broadway ends at the knee while the film gown is long and flowing.
At the moment, we can only analyze based on what is posted, which is very limited at the
moment.
We will be able to see what other changes they have made to the story as the film’s
release date approaches.
