House of the Dragon Season 1 ended on a major cliffhanger. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen was left heartbroken and devasted upon learning that her son had been murdered.

Aemond Targaryen chased Lucerys “Luke” Velaryon down on dragonback until his much larger dragon chomped Luke down in one bite. What could possibly happen next following such a terrible and fatal situation?

Rhaenyra might seek revenge against Alicent Hightower

via HBO Max

The friendship between Rhaenrya and Alicent was strong when they were children, but they grew apart as they aged.

The biggest reason they stopped being close is that Alicent tied the knot with Rhaenrya’s much older father.

None of that is relevant in connection to the possible revenge Rhaenrya may seek out against Alicent for the loss of her son in Season 2, though.

Daemon Targaryen might take Aemond Targaryen out

via HBO Max

Daemon isn’t shy when it comes to taking justice into his own hands. He sliced Vaemond Velaryon’s head clear off when Vaemond started trash-talking Rhaenrya, after all.

Since Daemon is devoted to Rhaenrya, it makes sense that he will go out of his way to avenge the death of her son. That might mean ending – Aemond for good.

A full-on war might ensue

via HBO Max

The anger Rhaenyra feels about losing her son might not result in a one-on-one battle between her and Alicent or Daemon and Aemond.

It quite possibly will turn into a full-on war between her side and Alicent’s side. Rhaenrya and Alicent weren’t seeing eye to eye about the rightful heir to the throne.

The death of Luke simply adds fuel to the fire. If a war ensues, dragons will most certainly be involved. Entire cities might get wiped out by the flames of angry fire.

Obviously, the Targaryen bloodline lives on to reach Game of Thrones 172 years into the future when Daenerys Stormborn is born. This means that if a war does occur, it won’t be completely devasting.
