Although traveling to new places and going on vacations are two very different things, a lot of people don’t actually understand the difference.

The reality is that traveling and vacationing are certainly comparable, despite their massive contrasts.

Still, it simply wouldn’t be accurate to say that traveling and vacationing are exactly the same. The words shouldn’t be used interchangeably the way they are.

Budget traveler OneForTheMems, aka Leah, shared a video breaking down the exact variables.

The differences between traveling and vacationing

Leah posted a caption on her video saying, “Something I’ve learned in the past couple [of] years is the difference between traveling and vacationing.”

She continues, “Vacationing is about relaxing. It’s expensive, all-inclusive, boujee. Traveling is about seeing new places. It’s cheap, it’s not always glamorous, it’s out of your comfort zone.”

She goes on to say, “You experience new cultures. Spend your 20s traveling as much as you can. It doesn’t need to be expensive or luxurious. It will open your eyes to the world that is out there.“

She also added a caption that says, “Just book the flight [white heart emoji] time doesn’t come back.”

Her video has pulled in more than 64,000 likes and more than 4,000 bookmarks so far. It’s obvious that a lot of people resonate with her viewpoint.

While vacations might be costly and glamorous, traveling doesn’t necessarily have to fit that mold.

When traveling, goals to have in mind should be about becoming more cultured, collecting wonderful souvenirs, observing gorgeous views, meeting new people, tasting delicious foods, and creating unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

When vacationing, it’s totally fine to opt for luxurious hotel rooms, decadent meals, and high-priced excursions.

Decide where you’re at in terms of finances and make your travel dreams happen.
