The Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought many actors into the limelight, including Chris Hemsworth, the man behind Thor, God of Thunder.
But while he’s had some notable roles outside of the world of superheroes, he has taken a break from acting. Which begs the question: when will lightning strike twice?
When will Chris Hemsworth return to acting?
In 2022, Chris announced to Vanity Fair that he had learned he had the APOE4 gene, an unfortunate genetic trait that increases the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
The then 39-year-old actor subsequently announced a break from acting, saying that finding out about the gene was a blessing that inspired him to take better care of his health, and that included stepping away from showbiz.
“I felt like I’d been in a sprint for 10 years, and all these moments that were dream scenarios would fly by. […] I was inundated with other kinds of requests and asks and being pulled in different directions. [I was] not really kind of enjoying what was right in front of me.“
However, a year later, Chris clarified his comments to The Hollywood Reporter, stating that his announcement was “sort of blown out of proportion,” and that his break wasn’t only about his diagnosis.
“I’ve been running from project to project for a long time, just to avoid being unemployed or that fear that it’s the last job you’ll get, you know? […] I want to have greater value and work with great people.”
Acting is in Chris’s bones, though! These are his upcoming movie projects:
- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – 2024
- Transformers One – 2024
- Avengers: The Kang Dynasty – 2026
- Avengers: Secret Wars – 2027
