One of the biggest misconceptions about New Year’s resolutions is that weight loss is the biggest goal on everyone’s mind.

This actually isn’t true at all.

According to Forbes, improved mental health is the number one resolution Americans have from 2023 going into 2024.

In fact, 45% of voters claimed that improving their mental health is their ultimate goal.

Having the desire to improve your mental health is normal if you feel like you’ve been living a life you’re not totally happy about.

Some of the ways people can go about improving their mental health include scheduling regular therapy sessions, socializing with more friends, learning new skills, seeking out better work-life balance, traveling to new places, and learning how to meditate.

As far as other common New Year’s resolutions go, improved fitness came in at 39%, weight loss pulled in 37% of votes, an improved diet pulled in 33%, and improved finances came in at 30%.

It’s obvious that Americans are excited about the prospect of making life changes. Using the incoming new year as a time to catapult yourself into change is a great idea.

The biggest detail to keep in mind is that it’s easier to abandon New Year’s resolutions than to follow through with them.

You have to go out of your way to keep up with your New Year’s resolutions without throwing in the towel when things start to feel like a challenge.
