Once upon a time, Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga had the same manager. His name? Bob Leone. The singers even shared a selfie.
However, the two eventually had a falling out. Lana wrote the Gaga diss track “So Legit” and a leak of the song appeared online.
At the request of Universal Music Group, YouTube removed it shortly after. Gaga’s advocate, Perez Hilton, saved it before it was wiped!
His save is the reason people can still listen to it today. Truth be told, listening to the combination of harsh lyrics and beautiful melodies is interesting.
Where did this feud with Gaga originate?
The lyrics of “So Legit” say:
“I don’t get it, I’m so legit.
Tell me, was it cuz I wasn’t platinum in jewels?
That perhaps you thought I was a little bit even uncool?
Kid, was that it?
Stefani, you suck
I know you’re selling 20 million,
Wish they could have seen you when we booed you off in Williamsburg.”
It’s unclear precisely when or why Lana and Gaga would have fallen out, and many people are presently unaware that the two have even had a falling out in the first place.
Gaga has been big in the music scene since “Just Dance” hit the radio in 2008. Lana rose to fame a few years later in 2011 with the release of “Video Games.”
Did Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey make up after the diss?
Given how the song “So Legit” was recorded, it wasn’t meant to see the light of the day. Although neither Gaga nor Lana made any comment concerning the diss track, it is safe to say that they both have moved on from the incident and even gone on to record together after that.
When asked about a possible collaboration in an interview with The Guardian, Lana conveyed the sense that they were barely acquainted.
She said, “I don’t think there is a collaboration. We haven’t spoken … I think she’s probably busy making her record. I don’t think she – I don’t think that’s on her agenda.”
A Reddit thread has been created to discuss the drama and there’s a bit of speculative insight there.
One user wrote, “Simply put, they both worked in NYC at clubs and bars and such before they were signed.
“Lana has said that talent scouts took notice of Gaga very fast and then we know how fast her career took off and how huge she got.
“Meanwhile, it took a little longer for Lana to get noticed. So it was probably just frustration from her part. Fortunately, she seems to have moved on from that they’re on good terms.”
