It’s official! Wizards of Waverly Place is coming back to Disney Channel!

Selena Gomez and David Henrie have orchestrated a magical reunion, teasing the highly-anticipated sequel.

The duo teased the revival by sharing a delightful dinner photo with the new cast and writers.

The new cast includes Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos in the new enchanting adventure.

Selena will reprise her character, Alex Russo, as a guest star in the pilot while David will play Justin Russo as a series regular.

Details about the new show

The sequel unfolds after a mysterious incident at WizTech, revealing an adult Justin Russo embracing a mundane life with his wife and two kids.

When a young wizard seeks training, Justin must confront his past to shape the Wizard World’s future.

Brown will star in the lead role of Billie, the powerful young wizard in need of training. Thiele will play Justin’s oldest son Roman while Gianopulos will take on the role of Justin’s wife Giada.

The original Wizards of Waverly Place aired on Disney Channel for four seasons between October 2007 and January 2012.

The show won two additional Emmys for Outstanding Children’s Program in 2009 and 2012, Its series finale was the most-watched final episode of any Disney Channel show.

The cast reacts

Selena reacted to the news on social media, reposting the Deadline story, writing that she was “so excited” alongside a heart emoji.

She then shared a throwback photo of her and David from the Wizards of Waverly Place set with the caption, “We’re back.”

David responded in the comment section, writing, “Get ready for the Russo’s to become apart of your family once again, but we’ve grown! 2024, the year 🪄 comes back ;)”

The show doesn’t have a premiere date just yet but production on the show officially began in January 2024.
