Taylor Swift, the queen of musical surprises, sent shockwaves through the industry with her unexpected announcement at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

As she stood on stage, accepting the Best Pop Vocal Album award for Midnights, Taylor dropped a bombshell: her eleventh studio album was on the horizon.

“I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out April 19th.”

“It’s called ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’ I’m going to go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you! Thank you!”

Album cover revealed

In a swift move, Taylor uploaded the album cover on Instagram showing her lounging on a bed, wearing a blank tank and shorts on a bed.

She also posted a photo of a handwritten note that reads,

“And so I enter into evidence / My tarnished coat of arms / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and charms / The tick, tick, tick of love bombs / My veins of pitch black ink / All’s fair in love and poetry…”

She signed off the poem (or lyrics) with, “Sincerely, The Chairman of the Tortured Poets Department.”

Details on Taylor’s 11th album

According to Taylor’s website, the new album will feature 16 songs including one bonus track titled “The Manuscript.”

There will be several versions of the album available for purchase, including a CD, cassette, vinyl and digital album. 

There will also be a special collector’s edition deluxe CD, which will include a collectible 20-page booklet that includes all song lyrics and never-before-seen photos, collectible photo cards, a bookmark and a magnet.
