A recent video resurfacing of Anne Hathaway’s interaction with fans outside the Valentino fashion show in Italy has ignited a heated debate online.

“I cannot take photos with everyone,” Anne said. “But I will stand here and wave if you would like to take a photo. I cannot sign, there are too many of you.”
“Mi dispiace [I’m sorry] but I want you to have something so if you’d like I’ll just wave a little bit. Thank you for understanding.”
In the video, Anne politely informs the crowd that she cannot take photos with everyone due to the sheer volume of people present.
Instead, she offers to stand and wave, ensuring that fans still have an opportunity to capture a moment with her.

The footage shows the “Devil Wears Prada” actor getting out of a car onto a street and appearing to speak directly to her fans.
Anne’s voice can’t be heard on the clip, but a TikTok user, a Deaf creator, attempted to read her lips as part of a series she’s doing with celebrity clips.
“Do not move please. Just, just a moment. Please stay where you are. I’ll come to you. Is that OK? We are not going to push. This is very calm. Thank you so much,” the user said, reading Anne’s lips.

Some online users compared her “regal” behavior to her role in “The Princess Diaries.”
