MattressNextDay conducted a survey to uncover some of the most common things that keep people awake at night. Here’s what they uncovered.

According to MattressNextDay, the number one thing keeping people up at night is worries about their general to-do list and what they’ve got going on the following day.

The next concern is randomly thinking about something that you forgot to do during the day.

Third in line? Feeling stressed out that you’re going to miss your alarm or oversleep on accident.

Stress about whatever work obligations you have tomorrow is the fourth thing that might be keeping you up.

In fifth place, the fear of someone breaking into your home and/or hearing noises downstairs is another major issue keeping people up.

Martin Seeley is a sleep expert from MattressNextDay. He has a lot to say on the topic.

Martin says, “It’s crucial to acknowledge and manage worries and stress to promote restful sleep. Ensuring a good night’s sleep is equally vital for managing stress levels effectively.

“During sleep, the brain processes emotional experiences, and enough rest can enhance cognitive clarity, regulate emotions, strengthen the immune system, and boost our ability to cope with worries and stress.”

Here’s how you can get better sleep at night

According to Martin, one of the best things you can do to get better sleep at night is to write down your thoughts.

If your mind is racing at night, get all of your thoughts written down, so that you’ll feel more peaceful as you’re transitioning to sleep.

His next tip is to use a weighted blanket. Your weighted blanket may alleviate feelings of anxiety and worry.

Martin’s third tip is to practice meditation or start prioritizing mindfulness. Mindfulness practices (including meditation) can help promote a better sense of inner calmness.
