Here’s some advice about love and dating, straight from Selena Gomez!

Now that Selena has settled into a serious relationship with Benny Blanco, fans are excited to see what their next steps will be.

Selena has always been open, honest, and candid about love, dating, and relationships. Here’s a roundup of her best gems.

First, don’t waver from your standards.

In an interview with SiriusXM Hits 1 LA, Selena said, “I have standards, and I think I live in a world right now where boys confuse standards with high maintenance… I’m not ashamed to say I require X, Y, and Z for you to be with me.”

Decide what your standards are and don’t waver from them! If your bare minimum requirements state that a guy should open your doors, unfollow random Instagram models, and have a solid career under his belt, don’t even think about making exceptions.

Second, be open to ALL possibilities

According to PopSugar, Selena said, “The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve learned that I have to open myself up to all opportunities. Maybe I’ll get burned and not meet the right people, but I won’t know until I do it.”

This advice is perfect for people who are scared to deviate away from dating their usual type.

If your usual type always happens to be guys who play guitar, guys who drive motorcycles, guys who are at least 6 feet tall minimum, or guys covered in tattoos, it might be time to give another type of guy a chance.

You’re allowed to be attracted to whoever you’re attracted to, of course. But Selena’s advice is simply to remain open to other possibilities also.

Third, don’t engage in off-and-on relationship dynamics.

According to Seventeen Magazine, Selena said, “I don’t like the whole off-and-on thing. I don’t like ‘taking a break.’ Either you’re with me or you’re not. And that’s how I kind of deal.”

We can all recall the off-and-on relationship Selena had with Justin Bieber from 2010 till 2018. There’s no denying that it was toxic AF.

Her advice is to avoid that emotional turmoil at all cost.

Fourth, never let heartbreak block you from continuing to pursue love.

During an interview with Jay Shetty on his podcast, Selena spoke about heartbreak saying, “I never wanted the pain that I endured to put some sort of guard on myself and armor, if you will. And I never, I never let that happen because I still believe, and I still hope for love, and I hope for healing, and I hope for change. And I never wanna lose that.”

The way she thinks is solid because if you let one heartbreak tarnish you forever, you’ll lose potential opportunities to experience real and genuine love in the future.

Fifth and finally, make peace with the idea of being alone to energetically allow the right person to come along.

In an interview with Time, Selena said, “I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it. Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.”

As long as her relationship with Benny lasts for the long haul, the plan she came up with will be null and void.

She made peace with the notion of living her life as a single woman, and that’s exactly when Benny entered the picture.

When you release negative or desperate energy attached to an outcome, it becomes easier for good things to flow into your life, like true love.
