Anyone actively watching House of the Dragon right now likely feels an abundance of fury and frustration whenever Criston Cole shows up on the screen.
It’s extremely difficult to defend Criston’s actions since he’s constantly going off the rails, being aggressive, acting out in petty ways, being immature, and generally just being the worst.

In one Reddit thread, fans of House of the Dragon are comparing the differences between Criston and Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones.
One person wrote, “I actually hate Criston Cole more at this point. Joffrey was laughed off as a spoiled brat half the time who barked orders at people, but at least you could predict how he would react because he was always an asshole. Criston Cole will be chilling like a normal guy and then out of nowhere he flips out and starts butchering people.”
Someone else added, “He is obsessed with hurting Rhaenyra at any cost. He knows Ageon doesn’t want the crown but he just wants to hurt Rhaenyra. He knows he is committing treason. If he thought a pig sitting on the iron throne would hurt her more than Ageon, he would have crowned a pig. He had sex with her once and he is still pissed about it. What a loser.”
A third fan of the show who absolutely loathes Criston wrote, “Every time that c-sucker gets any screen time I wanna destroy my TV! Really wish for him to get eaten by a dragon.”
Someone else chimed in with complaints about Criston saying, “He’s such a dork-ass loser. Like he’s not above murdering someone in the middle of the high council, but a couple scenes later refuses to even talk about sex. Cool morality you got there, dude.”
Another fan of the show shared an accurate example writing, “He reminds me of guys in real life who get rejected and then spend the next 50 years telling everyone how fat and ugly he thinks the woman who rejected him is.”

Although there’s an influx of negative comments about Criston as a character, there are also a lot of comments from people taking note of how attractive he is as well.
The hunk of an actor who plays Criston is named Fabien Frankel, and it seems that plenty of people have crushes on him!
Still, no matter how many people find him attractive, Criston’s behaviors are abhorrent in episodes of House of the Dragon.
