But, some viewers are convinced that another layer of drama between Alicent and Rhaenyra stems from the fact that Alicent has had romantic feelings for Rhaenyra all along.

Social media users are breaking down the clues and romantic hints that unfolded between Alicent and Rhaenyra when they were young.
One of the biggest hints of all came from Alicent’s agressively disturbed reaction upon hearing rumors about Rhaenyra’s sex life with Criston Cole.
Was she really just upset about the idea of Rhaenyra ruining her reputation or was she feeling slightly jealous?
Some fans have taken it as far as to say that Alicent is only interest in hooking up with Criston Cole years later so that she can be touched by the same man who once touched Rhaenyra.
In other words, being with Criston is the next closest thing Alicent can experience to actually being with Rhaenyra herself.
At this juncture, it’s unclear if Alicent will ever reveal the truth about any romantic feelings for Rhaenyra now that they’ve gotten to such a horrible place of bitterness and fury.
It appears their issues are beyond repair.
They’ve grown up, they’ve each been married, and they’ve both had several children. They live in different places and aren’t exactly in constant communication with each other like they once were.

On top of that, their friendship seems to completely deteriorate after Rhaenyra’s hookup session with Criston.
On the contrary side, other viewers are convinced that there was never anything more beyond platonic friendship between Alicent and Rhaenyra.
One House of the Dragon fan on social media wrote, “There’s something quite sick about so many people thinking about two teenage girls having sex because they are doing teenage girl things.”
Someone else adversely chimed into the conversation to say, “It was pretty clear to me that Alicent and Rhaenyra had something going on besides friendship in the first few episodes. Especially Alicent.”
