It’s easy to obsess over the Disney princesses, no matter how old you are. They live lives that are wonderful, magical, and full of bliss.
But there were five Disney characters who got the short end of the stick when they very well could have been written up as princesses.
If these characters had been written as princesses, they would’ve been able to join the Disney princess lineup!
Here are five characters who definitely didn’t get a fair shake.
Jane from Tarzan.

Jane from Tarzan should have absolutely been written as a princess. How difficult would it have been for Disney writers to simply make her father a king instead of some random explorer?
Her father could have been a king who was interested in learning about gorillas rather than a typical old man with wildlife curiosity.
If Jane’s father had been creatively written up as a royal individual, Jane could have fit in with the other Disney princesses perfectly.
Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

We know that Esmeralda is a gypsy with a free-spirited soul in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She should have had the opportunity to be a Disney princess, though.
At one point, she was technically considered a Disney princess, but she was dropped from the lineup because they felt like she was too difficult to market.
What a terrible excuse to get rid of her!
She’s often forgotten, yet she has always deserved more love and attention for being such a lovely and high-vibrational Disney character.
Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

How difficult would it have been for Disney writers to simply write Alice as a princess instead of an average little girl embarking on an insane adventure?
She could’ve joined the Disney princess lineup if she was written to come from a royal family rather than a typical, unremarkable family from Britain.
The idea of a little princess named Alice frolicking through Wonderland and enjoying a dreamy adventure would have still made just as much sense.
All that would’ve been required would’ve been a few tweaks to Alice’s fictional family details.
Wendy from Peter Pan.

If Wendy‘s family had been written up to be royal, Wendy could have joined the Disney Princess lineup with ease.
Instead, Disney writers wrote Wendy to come from a totally normal family in London.
If Wendy was a princess flying through Neverland with Peter Pan, the stakes certainly would’ve been a bit higher in the story.
But the story would’ve still made just as much sense and it would have been equally as awesome, if not more.
Bo Peep from Toy Story.

It’s easy to love Bo Peep from the Toy Story franchise with her little white and pink polkadot dress and sun hat.
She was the closest thing to a Barbie doll that Andy owned, which means she was the closest possibility we had to getting a Disney princess from the Toy Story franchise altogether.
If Bo Peep had been written as a princess doll instead of a sheep herder, the Disney princess lineup would have included her!
Do you think any of these Disney characters should have been written as princesses also? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
