Once upon a time, Demi Lovato was the leading actress in a Disney Channel show called Sonny With a Chance.

The first episode premiered in 2009, but the sitcom only lasted for two short seasons.

If things hadn’t been going on in Demi‘s personal life, there’s a chance to show would’ve lasted a lot longer.

It was supposed to be on par with Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and Wizards of Waverly Place.

Does Demi feel connected to the character she played on Sonny With a Chance at all? As a reminder, she played Sonny Monroe.

Things weren’t running smoothly in Demi’s life while she was handling the role of Sonny Monroe.

She opened up about everything with Harper’s Bazaar saying, “[I] wasn’t sleeping and I was so miserable and angry too because I felt like I was being overworked.”

Demi also noted that she wished she spent more time focusing on her mental health when she was younger instead of all the Disney Channel pressure that was on her shoulders.

She also opened up about the fact that she went to rehab several times while filming the show and that she struggled with an eating disorder.

Obviously, being on camera and having to memorize lines among all of her co-stars wasn’t a positive thing for her at that juncture.

Years later, it’s nice to hear Demi reflect on what it was like to film Sonny With a Chance now that she’s so far removed from that stage of her life.

If you’re curious to know whether or not the show will ever be rebooted, Disney Channel has never hinted about anything of that nature coming to fruition.

Since Demi was dealing with so many struggles behind the scenes the first time around, it’s highly unlikely that will happen.

To answer the question of whether or not Demi felt connected to the role of Sonny, it seems she had way too many serious problems happening off camera to truly dive in and connect with the character of Sonny.

Sonny was meant to be an ambitious and cheerful teenage girl from Wisconsin who relocated to Los Angeles to star in a sketch comedy series.

The concept of the show is lighthearted and high vibrational, but with the real-life turmoil Demi was dealing with, there likely wasn’t any real connection there.
