What can you do if you’ve been interviewing for new jobs and you finally received a job offer for one of them… But you’re still waiting to hear back from another company?

Are you supposed to pull the trigger on the first job that you heard back from?

Are you supposed to reject the first offer in hopes that the other job you interviewed for will come through?

TikToker and career coach @ErinMcGoff has solid advice for how to navigate this situation.

This is actually a great position to be in! 👏🏼 You can freely negotiate with your second choice while communicating to your first choice that youre ~in demand~ but they’re still your #1 🫶🏼 Every situation is unique, so feel free to use this as inspiration ✨ 💡 remember: do NOT accept the first job offer! Just say “thanks ill get back to you” & stall with negotiation. You got this! 👏🏼#careeradvice #careertiktok #careertok #salary #joboffer #negotiate #negotiatesalary #howto #edutok #corporate #funny #careertips #jobinterview #interviewtips

Job interviews and job offers

Erin says you shouldn’t tell the job that’s giving you an offer that you’re waiting to hear back from another company.

If you think about it, that’s a surefire way to offend them and make them reconsider offering you a position in the first place.

Instead, she suggests asking the company to send the offer letter over in writing so you’ll have time to review the specifics.

From there, you have a window to get in contact with the other company you’re interested in to let them know you’re fielding an offer elsewhere.

After that, Erin suggests negotiating with the first company to see if they’re willing to bump up your salary in any capacity.

When you hear back from the company you’re more interested in about whether or not they’re willing to move forward with you, you’ll have your answer about how to handle the original offer you received.
