Sydney Sweeney is so much more than a pretty face if you’ve been curious to know how academically inclined she really is.
It turns out that she actually attended college for two years before one of her professors sabotaged her ability to finish out with her business degree.
Here’s what you should know about Sydney‘s academic history.
Sydney was enrolled at UCLA while she was filming The Handmaid‘s Tale. It was her dream to pursue her education while also pursuing a successful career as an actress. She was even the valedictorian of her high school!
But her classmates and professor didn’t exactly see it that way.
While speaking with Drew Barrymore, Sydney opened up about a super messed up situation that happened before she could graduate.
Sydney said, “I was trying to balance college and acting at the same time. And I was working at trying to get a business degree. And I was filming Handmaid’s Tale, and I was trying to take all these classes at the same time. My finals came along and I was in Toronto [filming the show]. Everyone at Hulu [who produced the series] was so kind and they let me go back [to school] for my finals. And I went back and I walk into my entertainment law class and my professor goes, ‘What are you doing here?’ [I say], ‘Well, what do you mean? I’m here to take my finals.’ And he goes, ‘No you’re not’. And I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’”
She went on to say, “Apparently, all the kids [her classmates] were so upset that I was able to miss so many days of school and still succeed. Even though I made Dean’s List every semester for two years. And he didn’t let me take the final and I never got credit. I struggled really hard with that one.”
Drew responded by calling it a hard pill to follow.
Sydney then said, “It was hard. Kids didn’t understand. Professors don’t understand. I mean, I understand. But at the same time, it’s like I was working really hard.”
Fortunately for Sydney, finishing college doesn’t necessarily need to be something on her checklist.
UCLA is a fabulous college to attend, but Sydney is currently sitting on a whopping net worth of $40 million.
Prioritizing her career as an actress over a college class was the most brilliant decision she could’ve made.
Beyond acting, she’s been capitalizing on endorsement deals that have been highly lucrative. The endorsement deals wouldn’t exist if she wasn’t an actress.
She’s worked with makeup brands, drink brands, lingerie brands, and more.
At this point, Sydney is a hot commodity in the entertainment industry, and tons of executives are itching to get her signature on contracts for movie deals.
She has her pic of the litter when it comes to new projects at this point.
While having a college degree is a nice thing to have for most individuals, Sydney is far from average.
The college professor who did that to her should be ashamed of themself, by the way.
She was doing her best to juggle a front-facing job as an actress while earning an education, and that’s something that deserves a little more grace.
