Millennials who grew up watching Wizards of Waverly Place starring Selena Gomez are all grown up now… and so is Selena!

Which is why it’s beyond exciting that she agreed to star in the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel.

But, how does Selena really feel about her agreement to reprise her role as Alex Russo for Disney Channel?

Here’s what she recently revealed.

Selena opened up with People Magazine saying, “I truly feel like it was I started. I’ll always be grateful for that time and I just hope that this new chapter can bring a whole new audience joy the same way that you know, we did when we were younger.”

Not only are older Millennials going to absolutely love this, but Gen Z and Gen Alpha will also be obsessed!

Selena further opened up about the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel with Deadline saying, “What I would say is now you’ll get a glimpse of where Alex Russo and the Russo family is 17 something years later. A lot has changed but there’s still the heart of what keeps Wizards of Waverly Place alive. I’m excited and I hope people enjoy it.”

Selena didn’t agree to film the sequel all by herself, by the way. David Henrie is also going to star in the sequel alongside her.

As a reminder, David plays Justin Russo, Selena’s on-screen brother.

David spoke highly of the project and hyped Selena when discussing it at the premiere of Only Murders in the Building Season Four on the red carpet.

He said, “It’s something that Selena and I take very seriously and we want to get right. I think you’ll sense that when you watch it. We put a lot of love into this.”

David went on to say, “You’re gonna see a lot. [Selena] in multiple episodes so I’m not sure why people keep saying she’s only in one. She’s amazing as her current self playing Alex. Like the moment before we did our first scene, we had this wonderful quiet moment and it was like we hadn’t missed a beat back in character. Her and I always had great chemistry and great timing and great flow. It didn’t go anywhere. It was right there. It was magic.”

So, when exactly will the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel land on Disney Channel? It’s officially premiering on October 29th, 2024 with two new episodes.

After that, the first eight episodes will be available for streaming and binge-watching on Disney+ the very next day.
