It turns out that music from Lana Del Rey is super connected to the characters from Pretty Little Liars.
Here’s your full breakdown.
Alison DiLaurentis: This Is What Makes Us Girls.
Alison was a troublemaker in the early seasons of Pretty Little Liars. She wasn’t exactly a girl’s girl because she was only looking out for own self-interests.
She loved to do adult things that were a bit inappropriate for someone at her young age as well.
Lana sings, “Remember how we used to party up all night? Sneakin’ out and lookin’ for a taste of real life. Drinkin’ in the small town firelight. Pabst Blue Ribbon on ice. Sweet sixteen, and we had arrived. Walkin’ down the streets as they whistle, ‘Hi, hi!’”
Alison was a teenager who got hit on by men constantly. She was always on the lookout for a taste of real life when it came to her desire to seek out mature experiences.
Aria Montgomery: Cola.
Aria’s affair with her older English teacher shaped her character on Pretty Little Liars in early seasons of the show.
Lana sings, “My hmm tastes like Pepsi cola. My eyes are wide like cherry pies. I gotsa taste for men who are older. It’s always been so, it’s no surprise.”
Aria’s taste for an older man like Ezra is the reason it was so easy for her to get blackmailed.
Spencer Hastings: Sad Girl.
Spencer dealt with the difficult emotions that came along with never feeling good enough in comparison to her big sister, Melissa.
Lana sings, “I’m a sad girl, I’m a sad girl, I’m a bad girl, I’m a bad girl.”
Spencer felt both sad and bad that she was unable to compare to Melissa, and it made her work doubly as hard to carve a path for herself.
Hanna Marin: Pretty When You Cry.
Hanna struggled with self-esteem issues on Pretty Little Liars and even struggled with an eating disorder because of it.
Lana sings, “I’m pretty when I cry, I’m pretty when I cry.”
Hanna was a pretty girl, and she was pretty even when she was shedding tears over different heartbreaks she faced.
Emily Fields: F It I Love You.
Emily was scared to open up about her sexual orientation at first because she was fearful of being judged. Eventually, she stopped caring and started living in her truth.
Lana sings, “Dream a little dream of me. Make me into something sweet. Turn the radio on, dancin’ to a pop song. F it, I love you.”
Emily finally said “F it” and stopped holding back when it came to pursuing true love with other girls.
Mona Vanderwaal: High By the Beach.
Mona was out for revenge after years of being mercilessly taunted and bullied by Alison. The rest of the girls didn’t do much to defend her while it was happening.
Lana sings, “Anyone can start again. Not through love but through revenge. Through the fire, we’re born again. Peace by vengeance brings the end.”
Mona’s mission for vengeance totally tracks with these lyrics.
Jenna Marshall: In My Feelings.
The girls seriously messed up when it came to Jenna. Their dumb little prank left her blind for years before she had surgery to regain her vision.
Lana sings, “You got me in my feelings. Talking in my sleep again. Drown out all our screaming. Who’s doper than this bish? Who’s free-er than me? You wanna make the switch. Be my guest baby. I’m feeling all my F-ing feelings.”
Jenna was 100% stuck in her feelings after going through something so traumatic.
CeCe Drake: Dark But Just A Game.
CeCe played into the darkness of manipulative games with the girls on Pretty Little Liars. She was the show’s main antagonist in later seasons.
Lana sings, “It’s dark but just a game. That’s what he would say to me. The faces aren’t the same. But their stories all end tragically.”
CeCe’s face wasn’t the same after undergoing a sex change surgery in her youth, and if it were up to her, all the girls’ stories would end tragically.
