How do Taylor Swift‘s songs connect with the iconic characters from the Hunger Games franchise?

Katniss Everdeen: Long Live.

Katniss always proved how fierce she was as a young woman with serious leadership qualities, bravery, and courage.

Taylor sings, “Long live the walls we crashed through. How the kingdom lights shined just for me and you. I was screaming, ‘Long live all the magic we made.’ And bring on all the pretenders. One day we will be remembered.”

Katniss’s fight for justice in the Hunger Games movies is something she will go down in history for.

Peeta Mellark: Enchanted.

The first time Peeta ever saw Katniss, he developed a crush on her. He admitted that his feelings for her blossomed before they were both selected to participate in the Hunger games events.

Taylor sings, “I was enchanted to meet you. This is me praying that this was the very first page. Not where the story line ends. My thoughts will echo your name, until I see you again. These are the words I held back, as I was leaving too soon. I was enchanted to meet you. Please don’t be in love with someone else. Please don’t have somebody waiting on you.”

Peeta was crushing on Katniss HARD when he tossed her a free loaf of bread that fateful day. In his mind, he was probably hoping she wasn’t already involved with anyone else because he wanted to see if he’d ever have a chance with her.

Gale Hawthorne: Back to December.

Gale made a serious mistake that ultimately resulted in the death of Katniss’s little sister. His guilt consumed him, and what he did cost him any possible chance of ever being with Katniss.

Taylor sings, “Maybe this is wishful thinkin’. Probably mindless dreamin’. But if we loved again, I swear I’d love you right. I’d go back in time and change it, but I can’t. So if the chain is on your door, I understand. But this is me swallowin’ my pride. Standin’ in front of you sayin’ I’m sorry for that night.”

As we all know, Gale’s apology to Katniss did not get him very far.

President Snow: Dear John.

Snow was an evil and sinister jerk who loved sitting in his position of power. He treated poor people like they were less than human.

His anger at Katniss for her ability to unite the masses against the capitol made him look pathetic.

Taylor sings, “All the girls that you’ve run dry have tired lifeless eyes. ‘Cause you burned them out. But I took your matches before fire could catch me. So, don’t look now. I’m shining like fireworks over your sad empty town.”

Haymitch Abernathy: Change.

Haymitch was a survivor. He survived the first Hunger Games event he was forced to participate in and became a living legend after that.

Taylor sings, “Because these things will change. Can you feel it now? These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down. It’s a revolution, the time will come. For us to finally win. And we’ll sing hallelujah.”

Beyond winning the Hunger Games, Haymitch was also very much on board with a revolution against the capitol.

Effie Trinket: Innocent.

Effie started out as a mindless pawn from the capitol, doing the cold and callous job of announcing with kids would have to fight for their lives in the Hunger Games.

Later, she evolved and grew as a person. She became someone who was actually likable because she wanted to be on the right side of history.

Taylor sings, “Minds change like the weather, I hope you remember today is never too late to be brand new.”

Effie changed for the better through the course of the franchise. She never felt stuck staying the same, even though she came from the capitol.

Primrose Everdeen: Breathe.

Primrose’s death was a major blow to Katniss. The entire premise of the franchise stemmed from Katniss’s intentions to save her little sister’s life.

Taylor sings, “Music starts playin’ like the end of a sad movie. It’s the kinda ending you don’t really wanna see. ‘Cause it’s tragedy and it’ll only bring you down,. Now I don’t know what to be without you around. I can’t breathe without you, but I have to.”

These words would come from Katniss, directed at the memory of Primrose.
