Anyone who watched Game of Thrones knows exactly how the Night King looks, and he’s a creepy mother F-er.
But interestingly, enough, when Daemon from House of the Dragon had a hallucinative vision of the future, he caught a glimpse of someone who looked similar to the Night King.
Weirdly, the Night King Daemon saw looks nothing like the Night King who Game of Thrones fans grew accustomed to back in the day.
Here’s what fans are saying about the Night King switch-up online.
One social media user did their best to clear up all confusion writing, “I think it’s just supposed to be a regular white walker, not the Night King him himself.”
Someone else who agrees with them posted, “Yep. I was under the impression that it was just a vision of the white walkers in general and not specifically the Night King.”
Another fan who’s thinking about it a bit deeper wrote, “I thought it was supposed to resemble a Targaryen as a white walker, maybe even Daemon himself. The vision sequence conveyed the song of ice and fire to Daemon, but it’s like Daemon saw himself on the side of ice, to Rhaenyra’s fire. This sets him straight, so to speak.”
Someone else mentioned a confirmed interview with Matt Smith where he spoke about the white walker moment behind the scenes. Matt apparently referred to that particular white walker but never called him the Night King.
Beyond the fact that the white walker Daemon saw likely isn’t the actual Night King, fans of the show are still a bit disappointed by the CGI efforts used to bring the House of the Dragon white walker to life.
One social media user commented, “That white walker looks incredibly cheap.”
Another viewer responded by saying, “Maybe the budget was spent on all the dragons.”
A third fan jokingly joined the chat to say, “I thought it was a spirit Halloween mask.“
Ultimately, anyone who watched Game of Thrones knows that the characters in House of the Dragon will never actually cross paths with the Night King at any point in the show unless it happens in the form of another hallucination like what Daemon experienced.
The white walkers are written to arrive at the same time Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, and the entire Stark family are walking the earth.
We’re talking about at least a couple of centuries!
It would’ve been cool to see the white walker’s face off against the Targaryens while dragons were still alive and thriving in such a widespread capacity, though.
In Game of Thrones, viewers don’t even get to see a single one of Daenerys’s dragons breathe fire on the army of white walkers, and that was a massive disappointment.
