How are the characters from Game of Thrones represented when it comes to songs written in performed by Taylor Swift?
Taylor‘s songs are thought-provoking and magical.
Some of them have deeper connections to the Game of Thrones characters than you might realize at first listen.
Jon Snow: Long Story Short.
Jon went through hell and back between Seasons One and Eight of Game of Thrones.
Taylor sings, “Fatefully, I tried to pick my battles ’til the battle picked me. Misery, like the war of words I shouted in my sleep. And you passed right by. I was in the alley, surrounded on all sides. The knife cuts both ways.”
Taylor continues, “I fell from the pedestal right down the rabbit hole. Long story short, it was a bad time. Pushed from the precipice. Climbed right back up the cliff. Long story short, I survived.”
These lyrics of reminiscent of the time Jon was stabbed to death before he was brought back to life.
They’re also reminiscent of his time at the wall with the Night’s Watch.
Daenerys Targaryen: Mad Woman.
Daenerys eventually went a bit mad, just like her father, The Mad King. Game of Thrones fans watched her go off the deep end in Season Eight.
Taylor sings, “There’s nothin’ like a mad woman. What a shame she went mad. No one likes a mad woman. You made her like that. And you’ll poke that bear ’til her claws come out. And you find something to wrap your noose around. And there’s nothin’ like a mad woman. Now I breathe flames each time I talk. My cannons all firin’ at your yacht.”
Breathing flames?! Replace cannons with dragons, and these lyrics are beyond perfect for Daenerys.
Tyrion Lannister: 22.
Tyrion loved a good party of Game of Thrones. He adored alcohol and prostitutes for years.
Taylor sings, “It feels like a perfect night for breakfast at midnight. To fall in love with strangers. We’re happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time. It’s miserable and magical, oh yeah. Tonight’s the night when we forget about the deadlines. It’s time.”
These lyrics describe an average night out on the town for Tyrion.
Arya Stark: You’re on Your Own, Kid.
Arya was a warrior who went off on her own mission because she knew there was never going to be anyone around her to save the day.
Taylor sings, “You’ve got no reason to be afraid. You’re on your own, kid. Yeah, you can face this. You’re on your own, kid. You always have been.”
Arya was on her own for the majority of Game of Thrones, but she remained a badass from start to finish.
Cersei Lannister: thanK you AImee.
Cersei was one of the most unlikable villains of Game of Thrones.
Taylor sings, “It was always the same searing pain. But I prayed that one day, I could say: All that time you were throwing punches, I was building something and I couldn’t wait to show you it was real. Screamed, ‘F you, Aimee’ to the night sky as the blood was gushing.”
These are words multiple characters would easily aim at Cersei. Imagine these words coming from Catelyn Stark, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, or even Margaery Tyrell. Imagine any of tem directing these words right at Cersei.
Sansa Stark: All Too Well.
Sansa went through a journey of self-preservation on Game of Thrones. “All Too Well” is her Taylor song when you think of it as Sansa missing her family members rather than an ex-boyfriend.
Taylor sings, “I’m a crumpled up piece of paper lying here. ‘Cause I remember it all too well. Time won’t fly, it’s like I’m paralyzed by it. I’d like to be my old self again. But I’m still trying to find it.”
Sansa craved the life she had when the entire Stark family was alive and well in Winterfell. She remembered those memories all too well after her life was turned upside down with painfully traumatic moments.
Jaime Lannister: Ours.
Jaime’s unhealthy obsession and sexual desire for his twin sister, Cersei, was always on full display on Game of Thrones.
Their love for each other was never deemed appropriate, but they went for it anyway.
Taylor sings, “Seems like there’s always someone who disapproves. They’ll judge it like they know about me and you. And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do. The jury’s out, but my choice is you. So don’t you worry your pretty, little mind. People throw rocks at things that shine. And life makes love look hard. The stakes are high, the water’s rough. But this love is ours.”
These words sound like something Jaime would say in defense of his incestuous love story with Cersei.
Ros: Treacherous.
Ros was a lovable lady of the night who got paid in exchange for sexual favors. Her untimely death was sad to see, but before that, she was good at her job.
Taylor sings, “Put your lips close to mine. As long as they don’t touch. Out of focus, eye to eye. ‘Til the gravity’s too much. And I’ll do anything you say. If you say it with your hands.”
These words sound like something Ros would say to a high-paying client.
The Night King: Cold As You.
The Night King was a deathly creature who was out for blood. His evil ways were quite distressing to see for Game of Thrones fans.
Taylor sings, “Oh, what a shame. What a rainy ending given to a perfect day. Just walk away. Ain’t no use defending words that you will never say. And now that I’m sittin’ here thinkin’ it through. I’ve never been anywhere cold as you.”
The Night King was certainly a cold one.
