If you’ve been keeping up with new episodes of House of the Dragon, then you’ve likely already formed your own opinions about Alicent Hightower.

She’s a character some people love to love. Others love to hate her, though!

Where do you fall on that spectrum? Here’s what social media users are openly saying about the character of Alicent.

Brutally honest social media opinions about Alicent Hightower

Multiple Reddit threads have been launched to talk about Alicent and who she is at her core.

On top of that, Twitter threads, Instagram captions, and TikTok comment sections have been flooded by House of the Dragon fans who either deeply adore or aggressively despise Alicent.

One person on Reddit wrote, “I never liked her. Too judgmental, self-righteous, and a user. She used Viserys.”

Another user clapped back in defense of Alicent saying, “Viserys married her when she was 14 or 15 year old and used her as an incubator to birth him more children. Afterwards he neglected said children and once he got sick, Alicent became his nurse. Viserys is not the victime in this situation, it was the other way around.”

A separate Redditor who can’t stand Alicent commented, “She happily married him to be Queen and do her father’s bidding, and she lorded that position over Princess Rhaenyra. Alicent was sweet, but her father poisoned her. If she’s a victim, she’s a victim of her father‘s ambitions to raise his fortunes and put her horrible, sociopathic, lazy sons on the throne.”

Someone who watches the show aggressively commented, “Alicent whored herself out to him the day his wife died. Then she takes Criston as her whore even though he refused to be a whore for the princess. They are both vile characters, and I eagerly await their deaths.”

An Alicent apologist joined the chat to say, “Ultimately I feel really bad for her. She’s been controlled and used by her father, the realm, the faith, and her own fear. I wish she could get over her heartbreak of losing her bestie.”

Ultimately, the resounding back-and-forth conversation about Alicent on social media revolves around whether or not she’s a victim of her circumstances or a vindictive perpetrator who had evil intentions all along.

When you take the circumstances of her young teenage years into account, it’s safe to say she didn’t have control over many outcomes in her life.

But, when you take actions as an adult into account, it makes it much more difficult to continue rooting for her or supporting her.
