Sabrina Carpenter‘s rise to the top in the music industry has been amazing to watch. Her songs are catchy, her voice is fabulous, and her fashion is always on point.

But, how much of her career success comes from her talent alone, and how much of it comes from the very public feud she had with Olivia Rodrigo?

The rumored story is that Olivia was dating Joshua Bassett, but he dumped her for Sabrina. What makes this story even worse is that allegedly, there was some overlap.

It’s widely believed that Olivia’s hit song “Driver’s License” offers a detailed outline of the drama.

As a result, Sabrina received death threats from angry trolls who claimed to be diehard fans of Olivia.

Sabrina went on to release “Skin” and “Because I Liked a Boy,” which are two songs that seemingly offer public responses to the scandal.

Here’s what fans are saying about it online:

One fan wrote, “People say that Olivia didn’t contribute to Sabrina’s rise but personally, I think it brought a lot more spotlight on Sabrina. I feel bad that everyone accuses Sabrina of PR, as if she wanted all those death threats after she spent so long with such a good public image. I think she just took a bad situation and used it to boost her career.”

Someone else added, “Olivia absolutely contributed to her rise, it’s crazy that people would think otherwise. I’m too old to have watched Sabrina on Disney, I didn’t even know who she was before the Joshua drama. That being said, she’s absolutely a star in her own right, but for people to say that the Olivia drama didn’t contribute is crazy.”

Another fan wrote, “Sabrina’s been in the music world for a long time, but things really only started to go uphill since her ‘feud’ with Olivia, plus her change in art and presentation.”

Someone who thinks Olivia shouldn’t receive any credit for Sabrina’s success wrote, “I really couldn’t disagree with this take more. I think the piece you’re missing that coincidentally aligned with the Olivia Rodrigo drama was Sabrina finishing her Hollywood Records contract signing with Island Records, which is a real record label. If the Olivia drama alone was going to have a real effect, it would’ve done it in the moment. ‘Skin’ was Sabrina’s first single with Island Records and it charted but poorly. Sabrina finding her own sound helped her cultivate her brand.”

Another fan chimed in with, “I definitely think the drama with Olivia helped put Sabrina on some people’s radars, but her good music and promotion is what secured this higher level of success.”

There are loads of fans who have opposing opinions regarding Olivia’s contribution to Sabrina’s fame across the internet, but at the end of the day, what matters most is that both starlets are killing the game right now.
