One of the weirdest and most bizarre twists to happen on Gossip Girl went down when it became clear that Rufus and Lily shared a child.

Lily gave birth to Scott in secret without telling Rufus at all.

Scott’s existence meant that Serena and Dan shared a half-sibling, which was definitely jaw-dropping to both of them since they’d already been romantically linked for so long.

Gossip Girl viewers are still disturbed, annoyed, and bothered by the show writers’ decision to include this cringeworthy plot twist.

Here’s what some people are saying.

The weirdest thing of all is that Rufus and Lily spent multiple episodes trying to track their son down. To them, finding Scott was a very big deal.

When everyone was finally introduced to their son, it was a big reveal. Suddenly, all eyes were on Scott Rosson.

But then quickly after that, he was never mentioned or seen again.

One major theory is that the writers knew they wanted Selena and Dan to end up together, so they didn’t want to keep Scott around as a reminder of how weird it would be for Dan and Selena to get married while also sharing a sibling.

There were other major family events where Scott would have been invited if he was meant to truly fit in with the family, but time and time again, he was neglected, ignored, and forgotten.

Even though all family members and friends were gathered for Serena and Dan‘s wedding in the finale, for example, it certainly might been a little strange to see Scott there as a reminder of everything.

One social media user wrote, “Let’s be honest. If you saw Scott at Serena and Dan’s wedding, that would be weird as F. I assume they were hoping that by pulling Scott away entirely from the show would make people forget about his character. Stupid, I know, but Gossip Girl writers proved many times how they suck at fixing plot holes.”

Someone else added, “I wished he stayed in the series for longer as Rufus and Lily’s son. They spent so much time looking for him, only to be in a few episodes. Even Serena’s fake cousin spent more time on the show.”

And it’s true that if Scott had been part of Gossip Girl longer, there’s a chance he would’ve been able to have his happily ever after with Vanessa Abrams.

Scott and Vanessa had what seemed like a very real romantic connection, but despite the legitimacy of their feelings, he still left New York City to get away from the the Upper East Side because it was all so overwhelming for him.

Gossip Girl writers forced his character to go that route, but it definitely could have gone differently.

Scott also shared an interest in music with Rufus, and Rufus wasn’t able to enjoy his love for music with either of his kids, Dan or Jenny.

The writers could have taken Scott in the musical route following Rufus’s footsteps as well.

The theory is this: Scott was written out of the show to protect everyone’s perception of Serena and Dan‘s relationship so they could ultimately be endgame.
