How are the characters from Game of Thrones represented when it comes to songs written in performed by Lana Del Rey?
Lana‘s songs are thought-provoking and magical.
Some of them have deeper connections to the Game of Thrones characters than you might realize at first listen.
Jon Snow: Ride.
“Ride” is the song for Jon since he’s one Game of Thrones character who was always preparing to fight in the war against the Night King.
Jon was always putting forth his best effort.
In the lyrics, Lana sings, “Don’t break me down. I’ve been travelin’ too long. I’ve been trying too hard. With one pretty song. I hear the birds on the summer breeze, I drive fast. I am alone at midnight. Been tryin’ hard not to get into trouble, but I’ve got a war in my mind. So, I just ride.”
Daenerys Targaryen: Gods & Monsters.
It’s safe to say that “Gods & Monsters” by Lana is the perfect song for Daenerys who started the show with good intentions, but ended up getting murdered based on her desire for power since it became so toxic.
She was a mother to three fire-breathing dragons as well.
In “Gods & Monsters,” Lana sings, “In the land of Gods and Monsters, I was an angel living in the garden of evil. Screwed up, scared, doing anything that I needed. Shining like a fiery beacon.”
Tyrion Lannister: Terrence Loves You.
The scenes involving Tyrion got really emotional when he fell for a prostitute named Shae. She slept with his father, and it broke his heart.
He ended her life when all he really wanted to do was live a life full of love with her. It was devastating for him.
Plus, he spent the majority of the show drinking tons of liquor.
In “Terrence Loves You” by Lana, she sings, “Well I lost myself when I lost you. But I still got jazz when I’ve got the blues. I lost myself and I lost you too. And I still get trashed, honey. When I hear your tunes.”
Arya Stark: Tough.
“Tough“ by Lana is the perfect song to describe Arya, who was a weapon-yielding warrior who knew how to fight. She used her toughness to her advantage.
In “Tough,” Lana sings, “Tough like the scuff on a pair of old leather boots. Like the blue-collar, red-dirt attitude. Like a .38 made out of brass. Tough like the stuff in your grandpa’s glass. Life’s gonna do what it does. Sure as the good Lord’s up above. I’m cut like a diamond shinin’ in the rough. Tough.”
Cersei Lannister: Burning Desire.
“Burning Desire” by Lana is the perfect song for Cersei who was somewhat of a sexual deviant craving sex with her own twin brother, Jaime Lannister, pretty much the whole time.
Regarding her super inappropriate relationship with Jaime, lyrics from “Burning Desire” totally resonate.
In the song, Lana sings, “Push it to the limits ’cause I just don’t care. I’ve got a burning desire for you, baby. Every Saturday night I seem to come alive for you, baby.”
Sansa Stark: A&W.
“A&W” is the best song to resonate with Sansa since Lana describes the pain of being SA’d in the lyrics.
She sings, “I mean, look at my hair. Look at the length of it and the shape of my body. If I told you that I was graped, do you really think that anybody would think I didn’t ask for it? I didn’t ask for it. I won’t testify, I already F’d up my story. On top of this, so many other things you can’t believe.”
As a reminder, Sansa was brutally SA’d by Ramsay Bolton after she was forced to marry him. He was always cruel and sadistic, and he didn’t lighten up on her behalf.
Jaime Lannister: Let the Light In.
Jaime‘s dedication to his twin sister and lover, Cersei, was never something Game of Thrones fans questioned.
It was always safe to assume he was going to remain loyal to her, regardless of the circumstances.
Cersei was widely hated by Game of Thrones viewers. Even so, Jaime never lost his feelings for her.
In “Let the Light In,” Lana sings, “’Cause I love, to love, to love, to love you. I hate to hate, to hate, to hate you. ‘Cause I wanna, wanna, wanna want you. I need to, need to, need to need you.”
Ros: F’d My Way Up to the Top.
It’s pretty self-explanatory why Lana’s song “F’d My Way Up to the Top” is fitting for a character like Ros.
Ros was a stunning prostitute who slept with many powerful men during her time on Game of Thrones.
In the song, Lana boldly sings, “I F’d my way up to the top. Go, baby, go. This is my show. This is my show. I’m a dragon, you’re a whore. Don’t even know what you’re good for. Mimicking me is an F-ing bore to me. But, babe. Lay me down tonight in my diamonds and pearls. Tell me songs at night about your favorite girl.”
The Night King: Shades of Cool.
The Night King never had a real personality aside from the fact that he wanted to be murderous and destructive.
In “Shades of Cool,” Lana sings about a man who is completely emotionally closed off. No matter how much love she tries to pour into him, she knows she will never be enough.
The Night King is a callous, emotionless killer who has an evil heart made of frozen ice.
In “Shades of Cool,” Lana damn near describes the Night King singing, “You are unfixable. I can’t break through your world. ‘Cause you live in shades of cool. Your heart is unbreakable. My baby lives in shades of cool. Cold heart and hands and aptitude.”
