Maybe your ideal vacation consists of palm trees and white sand beaches, but there’s something to be said about walking in a winter wonderland.

The crunch of snow underneath your feet, the way it sparkles on the ground and on the tree branches… a winter holiday is a surefire way to spend some quality days off. Here are a few lovely places where you’ll see the beauty of winter in the USA.

Stowe, Vermont

Vermont is usually known for its beautiful fall foliage or its rolling green hills in the summer, but don’t count this destination out in the winter!

Skiing, snowboarding, and tubing are all within arms reach at this destination, or you can visit the Gilmore Girls-reminiscent town of Stowe and have a cup of coffee while watching the snow fall outside the window.

Anchorage, Alaska

If you’re looking to see snow in its full natural form, Alaska is the place to go. A haven for nature lovers, Alaska is an off-the-beaten-path destination that truly makes you experience the serenity of a beautiful winter day.

Big Sky, Montana

Put those cowboy dreams to use by getting out in the mountains of Montana. While usually known for horseback rides and summer road trips, Big Sky is also a great winter destination: with mountain ranges for winter sports and little towns to warm up in, it’s the perfect place to see just how beautiful the snow can be.

Aspen, Colorado

Of course, we have to add Colorado to the list! Known for its ski resorts and bougie retreats, Aspen is a great destination to put those skis to work. If sports aren’t your thing, head to the ski lounge and sip on a Hot Toddy while watching your friends shiver down the mountain ranges.

Sure, summer is a great time for a great American road trip, but don’t let the seasons stop you! Get out there — rush down a mountain, build a snowman, and enjoy America’s great winter.
