We’ve got seven pieces of proof that Nate Archibald and Jenny Humphrey should have been endgame on Gossip Girl.
Their individual love lives were always interesting to keep up with on the show.
Nate’s girlfriend list was pretty chaotic since he ended up dating women who were old enough to be his mother and he even dated one girl who was WAY too young for him in the final season! Jenny never found herself a winner, either.
There was a massive chance that Nate and Jenny could have had a successful relationship if Jenny wasn’t constantly showcasing her immature side.
There were pockets of time when Nate was wholeheartedly interested in Jenny, but when she did dumb things like sabotaging Vanessa‘s dress, she revealed herself to be someone Nate didn’t exactly want to be involved with.
As a reminder, Jenny dressed Vanessa in a sheer gown before blasting bright lights at her at the Snowflake Ball so Vanessa’s bare body would be exposed in front of everyone.
Nate saw that Jenny did that, and he was repulsed by Jenny’s bully-style behavior. A long-lasting romantic relationship between Jenny and Nate never seemed to be in the cards based on some of the petty decisions she made.
On other occasions, Nate showed up like a white knight to protect Jenny from tragic outcomes. Which leads us to reason number one why Nate and Jenny should have been endgame.
Nate and Jenny both didn’t end up with anyone in the finale of Gossip Girl, but they definitely should have ended up with each other. Here are seven reasons why.
Reasons for Nate and Jenny’s endgame dynamic

First, Nate was always showing up for her like a full-fledged white knight in shining armor.
He intervened before Jenny could get photographed by a sleazy photographer at one point.
Nate also rescued Jenny from getting sexually assaulted when she was drugged by an evil model named Agnes.
Since Nate was willing to go out of his way to rescue Jenny as if he were her own personal Prince Charming, we have reason to believe they could have very well had their own happily ever after by the end of the show.
Reason number two? If the actress behind the role of Jenny, Taylor Momsen, hadn’t exited the show early, Jenny and Nate would have had time to build a stronger foundation. Taylor left the show to focus on her rock band, The Pretty Reckless.
If Jenny was still a full-time character on the show, the writers would have had more time and opportunity to build up the relationship dynamics between her and Nate.
Character development takes time, and that’s just not something Gossip Girl writers had since Taylor wasn’t willing to stick around.
The third reason we believe Nate and Jenny should have been endgame comes down to the heartache she felt with every other love interest she had on the show.
Her first boyfriend was Asher Hornsby who treated her badly because he was secretly gay the whole time. He was condescending as hell and supert dismissive of Little J.
Then she dated Damian Dalgaard who not only pressured her to have sex before she was ready but also got her involved in the drug dealing game. On top of that, he totally ditched her for a date night with Serena van der Woodsen at one point. Three strikes and you’re out!
Jenny’s worse romantic connection on the show was probably Chuck Bass who initially attempted to SA her in Season One before swiping her V-card in Season Three. The aftermath of that decision left Jenny full of regret and depression. It also got her banished from Manhattan by Blair Waldorf.
Just a bunch of toxicity!
So, if you really think about it, the only guy Jenny was romantically linked to who was truly a gentleman to her was Nate.
The fourth reason they should have been endgame is that they both could connect when it came to their financial struggles.
Nate was temporarily living in a sleeping bag on the floor of his home after his family’s assets were seized following his father’s embezzlement scandal. His family lost all their wealth and Nate understood the pain that came from living in a state of lack.
Jenny also understood financial struggles because she grew up in Brooklyn with parents who earned significantly less money than all her wealthy classmates. Jenny never felt like she fit in with the rich girls around her and it constantly left her feeling insecure.
If Nate and Jenny dated, they’d be able to resonate on that topic.
The fifth reason is that they very easily could have been Blair & Chuck Two-Point-O.
When you think about couples from Gossip Girl who brought the heat in terms of passion and intensity, Chuck and Blair obviously come in first place.
But if you really think about it, no other couples from the show were ever as exciting to keep up with. Serena and Dan’s connection was a complete bore, for example.
Nate and Jenny were so feverishly into each other, their relationship would have been divine to watch unravel on the show, similar to Chuck and Blair’s.
Nate and Jenny had sort of a forbidden love trope under their belts since Jenny’s older brother, Dan, didn’t approve of their connection. In most cases, knowing you can’t be with someone only makes you want them more.
The passion and intensity between Nate and Jenny would have exemplified that.
The sixth reason is that they would have been able to connect on a deeper level over issues they had with their parents.
Jenny dealt with parental struggles since her mother, Alison, dipped on the family for a boyfriend in Hudson.
Jenny’s dad, Rufus, was also extremely controlling, aggressively strict, and overly sexist regarding his parenting style.
Nate’s parental struggles started with his father, Howard, breaking laws by committing fraud and embezzlement. His father ended up behind bars for being a full-fledged criminal.
Nate’s mother, Anne, was a delusional and vapid woman who had no clue how to emotionally nurture Nate in the slightest.
Yep. Drama and trauma with their parents is something that could have brought Jenny and Nate closer together as a couple.
The seventh reason is that fans of the show still desperately ship Nate and Jenny as their fave couple.
Diehard fans who believe Jenny and Nate should have been endgame have weighed in with their thoughts and opinions on social media saying things like:
“I adored Jenny and Nate together, he brought out the best in her.”
“Jenny and Nate are my guilty pleasure fave couple to ship together. I wish they ended up together.”
And “A better finale for Gossip Girl would have been Nate and Jenny’s wedding instead of Dan and Serena, for real.”
