Is there such a thing as too much positivity? Yes there is .

Toxic positivity is the idea of someone always trying to cover up any existing emotions with a positivity facade.

People who practice toxic positivity and we have all been guilty at some point try to cover up any other emotions like anger or hurt by “let’s be positive” “let’s be happy”,”let’s not acknowledge those other emotions”.

Despite how dire the experience might be for them or the other person.

Why do people exhibit toxic positivity, there’s a few reasons one might do that;

  • Shame of being seen as vulnerable or negative.
  • Fear of acknowledging that other unhappy emotions actually do exists and are part of the human experience.
  • Denial of current circumstances.
  • Gaslighting others into thinking that their circumstances are false.

Simply because we experience both good and bad things .

Here’s an example of toxic positivity at its peak.person a Losing a loved one and person b commenting “It will be okay, everything happens for a reason”.

Are you kidding me?

The cure for toxic positivity

  • Acknowledge your feelings: are you mad that your boss disrespected you ? Your feelings are totally worth it
  • Balance negativity with gratitude: you can still be grateful for all that you have and be sad about a particular circumstance , one doesn’t invalidate the other.
  • Openly display your true feelings and accept those of others.

With that said I hope that you can learn to allow yourself and others to be real people with raw human emotions while still championing for a high vibrational life.
