Just about everyone and their mom is talking about an upcoming live-action version of Hercules.
Disney fans of all ages have generally enjoyed watching the animated version of Hercules, which means tons of people are excited for the live-action version to hit theaters.
One of the biggest conversations happening right now is about who’s going to play the legendary character of Meg.
Will it be the talented Ariana Grande? Or perhaps it will be Dua Lipa instead? Here’s what you should know about the rumored cast lineup.
The argument for Ariana Grande as Meg
It’s safe to say we can pretty much ALL picture Ariana dazzling as Meg in the live-action version of Hercules.
She’s currently living her best life after starring in 2024’s Wicked. The movie has amplified Ariana‘s career trajectory in a big way.
Plenty of fans knew and loved Ariana from her Nickelodeon days on Sam & Cat and Victorious.
We’ve also enjoyed listening to some of her biggest bops like “7 Rings,” “Thank U Next,” and “The Boy is Mine.”
Her impressive list of awards includes the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album, Billboard Music Award for Top Female Artist, and the MTV Video Music Award for Song of the Year.
So, the idea of seeing Ariana in a musical role like Meg definitely fits the bill.
Since she’s been rocking light blonde hair lately, she might have to return to her darker roots to play Meg in the most believable way ever.
Meg’s a character who does a lot of singing, which is absolutely perfect for Ariana. After all, she has one of the most divine singing voices of our generation.
The one role Ariana has openly talked about manifesting for herself is Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked –– but that doesn’t mean she isn’t open to starring in another movie like this that could be just as iconic.
The argument for Dua Lipa as Meg
Rumors about Dua snagging the role of Meg have been piping hot lately! Social media users have a lot to say on the topic.
Some fans are excited by the idea of seeing Dua as Meg while others aren’t really catching the vibe.
Although Dua is more widely known for her career as a singer, she’s also done a bit of acting to reflect on.
She starred in Argylle playing the role of LaGrange in 2025, alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Henry Cavill.
Unfortunately, the movie didn’t do that well with a 33% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Beyond that, Dua’s biggest songs have placed her on the map as a celeb to keep an eye out for.
Hits like “Levitating,” “Dance the Night,” and “Training Season” made pop music lovers fall head over heels in love with her.
Her awards list includes the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, the Brit Award for British Album of the Year, and the Billboard Music Award for Top Radio Song.
She already looks the part to play Meg since she’s got the dark hair. As of now, it’s unclear if producers will choose Ariana or Dua, though.
Either way, this is one update we’re certainly excited to learn about.
Who will actually play Hercules?
A couple of actors being considered for the titular role of Hercules include Noah Centineo and Austin Butler.
Noah rose to fame on projects like The Fosters, The Perfect Date, and the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise.
Austin, on the other hand, has starred in movies like Elvis, Dune: Part Two, and Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood.
It would honestly be a delight to see either Noah or Austin playing Hercules.
They’re both considered modern day heartthrobs in 2025 with loads of fans who have massive crushes on them. Disney producers will be winning either way.
