One of the reasons fans were convinced Selena and Charlie are no longer friends with each other is because of the way they both handled the relationship rumors swirling about them between 2015 and 2018.
Selena and Charlie linked up in the studio to release a banger called “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” which made fans to start asking questions about if they were secretly hooking up.
Selena and Charlie certainly came across like a young couple in love with tons of brewing chemistry.
However, Selena shut that narrative down in an Instagram post writing, “He is my friend only lol.”
It seemed like just another public friend-zoning situation.
But Charlie didn’t go along with her view of things a few years later during an interview with Billboard in 2018.
He said, “I don’t kiss and tell, but the only way a song like ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ can come across as real is if there’s something going on behind the scenes. And that’s what was happening with Selena. Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful. And it really messed me up. I’m trying to put this the best way possible. It wasn’t like I was the only person on her mind.”
The way Charlie described his dramatic fling and heartbreak with Selena definitely sounds like a public accusation that she potentially would’ve preferred keeping under wraps.
And the fact that he referenced her having other people on her mind at the time also makes this entire thing super messy.
Rumor has it, Charlie dropped the song “Attention” as a diss track against Selena after this scandal as well.
He never admitted the song was about her, but tons of fans are convinced that it is.
The scathing lyrics say, “You just want attention, you don’t want my heart. Maybe you just hate the thought of me with someone new. Yeah, you just want attention. I knew from the start. You’re just making sure I’m never getting over you.”
