Did you cringe while watching Gossip Girl based on some of Serena van der Woodsen’s most embarrassing moments?

She did loads of embarrassing things, but we’ve narrowed down 10 instances that likely made you want to turn off the show altogether!

Let’s dive into it.

First, Trying to get her dad’s attention by being scandalous in front of paparazzi.

Serena was desperate to get her dad‘s attention based on her abandonment issues.

There’s nothing embarrassing about her abandonment issues since it wasn’t her fault her father chose to dip out on her when she was younger.

However, the embarrassing factor comes into play when we consider how she acted when she got a little older.

She knew her dad would notice her in tabloids if she did inappropriate and risque things in front of the press.

She knew that the wilder her behavior was, the bigger chance she would have of getting her dad to reach out to her.

It made sense that Serena had a deep desire to connect with her father, since most children want to be close with their parents.

But the way she went about it was all wrong.

She sabotaged her own reputation in the process by doing things like partying and drinking on yachts, letting her bra straps fall in the middle of New York City, and riding off into the sunset on a horse that didn’t belong to her.

She also got extremely close with Carter Baizen in an attempt to get in contact with her father, even though Carter was always a sleazy dude.

Second, When she got jealous of her little cousin, Lola.

Serena couldn’t wrap her head around the idea of Lola being the newest it-girl in Manhattan.

Serena was so accustomed to being everyone’s favorite it-girl, she had no idea how to react when everyone started shifting their attention to Lola.

At first, Serena welcomed the idea of Lola taking over as the newest it-girl because she felt like it would bring her some relief and privacy.

She loved the idea that she wouldn’t be at the center of everyone’s gossip anymore.

But when Lola really did start embracing the it-girl persona, Serena instantly got jealous, and that was embarrassing AF.

Instead of being happy for her little cousin, Serena decided she wanted to sabotage Lola in the most immature way ever.

She pulled the fire alarm causing Lola to rush out of a dressing room wearing nothing but lingerie.

Fortunately for Lola, it was an it-girl moment for the ages, and it only made her image even cooler.

Of course, that made Serena even more pissed off! The level of jealousy she had was insanely embarrassing.

Third, When she tried to seduce Dan to record their hookup, and Dan called her out for it.

One of Serena’s most cringeworthy moments of all time was when she tried to get into Dan’s pants at a bar while secretly filming their encounter.

She wanted to rub it in Blair‘s face that she still could get Dan’s attention and affection.

It was so beyond embarrassing when Dan realized she was trying to record them because he instantly shut the whole thing down.

The fact that Serena tried to film Dan without his consent shows how manipulative of a character she really was.

She didn’t actually want to share an intimate moment with Dan because she was attracted to him or feeling frisky.

Instead, she just wanted to have ammunition to use against Blair so she could feel more powerful.

If she had gotten away with her tasteless plot, it would have actually been sinister.

Instead however, she ended up getting embarrassed because Dan noticed what she was doing and called her out for it on the spot.

Fourth, When she crashed Chuck’s business meeting and ruined his chances of a closing a deal.

Serena was occasionally a great stepsister to Chuck, but not always.

In some cases, she had his back, like when it came time to support him in his relationship with Blair.

But other times, she was the worst possible person for Chuck to be associated with.

One of her embarrassing moments happened when she showed up at his business meeting to sabotage his chances of a successful business exchange and partnership.

Serena was annoyed with Chuck, so she deliberately did what she did to hurt him.

Gossip Girl fans have posted on social media about how shameful it was that Serena was willing to do that to Chuck.

One person wrote, “She took her negative energy from 0 to 100 so quickly for no reason. It gave me secondhand embarrassment. She was like a child, throwing a tantrum and she made me so mad that entire episode. Chuck deserved better.”

Honestly, we agree!

Fifth, When she started dating a con artist who swindled her family and friends.

Serena was the type of character on Gossip Girl who lived for love.

A lot of decisions she made revolved around her desperation to be in a loving and committed relationship.

For this reason, she often found herself embroiled in romances that were incredibly toxic and cringeworthy.

One of the most embarrassing relationships of all was the one she had with Gabriel Edwards.

He was a straight-up con artist who had no good intentions whatsoever.

Of course, he eventually developed romantic feelings for Serena after spending time with her, but it was too little too late.

He conned her wealthiest friends and family members out of their riches, including Rufus Humphrey.

The heartbreaking catch about Rufus is that he didn’t have as much wealth as other folks in that situation, so he ended up losing pretty much all the money he set aside for his kids’ futures.

Serena‘s decision put pressure on Lily‘s shoulders to make up for Rufus‘s financial losses, which then in turn put a strain on Lily and Rufus‘s marriage.

The dissolution of Lily and Rufus’s marriage started there, so their eventual divorce was all Serena‘s fault, if you think about it.

Sixth, When she had to beg Ivy to move in with her in Los Angeles.

It was certainly embarrassing when Serena went out of her way, trying to desperately insist on Ivy‘s relocation in Los Angeles.

She showed up at Ivy‘s apartment and tried to make it seem like Ivy was living in squalor, even though Ivy was living in a very normal and basic Los Angeles apartment.

Serena‘s desperate energy was embarrassing to see because it came across like she was eager to have Ivy by her side so she wouldn’t have to be alone in the city.

Why was Selena so desperate for Ivy to move in with her? Serena already had a job of her own to focus on, so the way she treated Ivy was completely unnecessary and out of control.

One social media user took to Reddit to talk about the situation writing, “I just started watching Season Five of Gossip Girl, and I find it extremely strange that Serena was so aggressive about having Ivy live with her in LA. It was secondhand embarrassing for me to watch those scenes. Why was Serena so adamant about it?”

Yeah, it was weirdo behavior.

Seventh, When her own mother had her arrested.

When your own mom wants to see you locked up behind bars, what does that mean for you?

For us as viewers, it certainly meant we were extremely embarrassed for Serena.

Serena was trying to correct the terrible situation with Poppy Lifton by setting Poppy up to get arrested at a restaurant, but she didn’t explain the entire detailed plan to her mother.

Lily decided to take matters into her own hands by reporting a piece of jewelry missing so that police officers would track Serena down and arrest her for wearing that piece of jewelry.

Once Serena was behind bars, Lily felt a little more peaceful about everything because she finally felt she had some control over the situation.

Lily constantly felt like she was in over her head dealing with Serena and all of Serena‘s wild antics.

Of course, Lily didn’t want Serena to be locked up behind bars on a long-term basis.

She was simply trying to regain control over the situation. But one thing we can say for sure about this whole ordeal?

It was embarrassing for Serena to get arrested in front of all her closest friends over something she could’ve easily avoided if she had communicated properly with her mother.

Plus, tons of random New York City strangers watched her get whisked off in a cop car also.

Eighth, When she said she cheated on Dan to avoid telling the truth about Pete’s OD, and Dan was repulsed.

How insane do you have to be to admit that you cheated on your boyfriend when you never really did, just tp avoid telling the truth about something else?

That’s a common question asked by plenty of Gossip Girl fans in regards to Serena.

She wasn’t ready to admit the truth about Pete’s OD because she felt like she was to be blame for his unaliving.

In reality, Serena was only in the same hotel room with him while he was dabbling in the use of illegal substances.

It wasn’t her fault he chose to continue messing with substances that were so dangerous.

When he was unalived, she did the right thing by calling for an ambulance, even though she didn’t stick around and wait for the ambulance to arrive.

She didn’t want Dan to know any of those disturbing details, so she told Dan she cheated on him instead.

Dan was left feeling repulsed and disgusted by her because he truly believed that she was a cheater.

It was a crazy moment for Serena, who had previously been placed on a pedestal by Dan from the first moment he ever laid eyes on her.

After he saw her as a cheater, she was yanked down from that pedestal instantaneously.

Ninth, When she got addicted to posting as Gossip Girl. Like girl, get a grip.

It was so grossly annoying when Serena got hooked on the power she was experiencing while taking on the role of Gossip Girl.

She briefly got the blog’s login password and started posting Gossip Girl blasts on a regular basis.

It was incredibly bizarre that she was so gung-ho about taking on the role of Gossip Girl after spending years being harassed and humiliated on the internet herself.

It’s like, as soon as she had a chance to wreak havoc on the lives of others, she took it.

It gave us the vibe that Serena never REALLY hated Gossip Girl that much.

If she did, she would’ve instantly shut down the entire blog as soon as she gained access to it.

Instead, she used the login information to go on a cringey power trip.

Social media users have chimed in with their thoughts on Serena‘s stint as Gossip Girl.

One person wrote, “Serena as Gossip Girl was a travesty. All the episodes of Serena playing Gossip Girl were so annoying. She was so unlikable for that entire arc.”

Serena’s addiction to posting blasts as Gossip Girl was embarrassing AF, to say the least.

Tenth, When she officially married her online stalker.

Why would anyone willingly agree to marry someone who stalked, harassed, and humiliated them on the internet for years?

In the finale of Gossip Girl, Serena decided to do exactly that.

She decided to forgive Dan for all the shameful things he did over the years by tying the knot with him.

Not only did Dan shame her on the Gossip Girl blog for the whole world to see, but he also did it to the rest of their inner circle as well.

Because Serena was ready and willing to forgive him, she sort of made everyone else follow suit and do the same thing.

We know this much because everyone was present on their wedding day!

It’s embarrassing that Serena lacked all senses of self-love by agreeing to marry someone who eagerly dragged her for filth in front of the public so many times for so long.
