Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement has fans speculating about every detail of their upcoming nuptials — from the dress to the guest list, and of course, the music. Thanks to new research, we now have a pretty good idea of what might be on the couple’s wedding playlist.
A study by QR Code Generator, analyzed 1,580 wedding-themed Spotify playlists (including “Wedding dancefloor,” “Wedding party,” and “First dance songs”), covering 57,327 tracks in total. By tallying the most frequently chosen songs, the researchers revealed the ultimate soundtrack for modern weddings — and which Taylor Swift songs are most likely to play at hers.
The 10 Most Popular Wedding Songs of All Time
| Rank | Song | Artist | % of Playlists |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) | Whitney Houston | 22.03% |
| 2 | Mr. Brightside | The Killers | 19.68% |
| 3 | Dancing Queen | ABBA | 18.04% |
| 4 | Dancing in the Moonlight | Toploader | 14.75% |
| 5 | Sweet Caroline | Neil Diamond | 14.24% |
| 6 | Marry You | Bruno Mars | 14.18% |
| 7 | Murder on the Dancefloor | Sophie Ellis-Bextor | 13.61% |
| 8 | Crazy in Love (feat. JAY-Z) | Beyoncé | 13.23% |
| 9 | Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! | ABBA | 12.91% |
| 10 | Shut Up and Dance | WALK THE MOON | 12.47% |
At the top of the list? Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, a timeless anthem that appears in more than 1 in 5 playlists. The Killers’ Mr. Brightside and ABBA’s Dancing Queen round out the top three — tracks guaranteed to get guests of all ages onto the dancefloor.
Where Taylor Swift Fits In
Interestingly, while no Taylor Swift track cracks the top 80, she’s still the most popular artist across wedding playlists overall. Her songs appear more often than those of ABBA or Ed Sheeran — two artists often dubbed wedding staples.
- Shake It Off – 86th place (5.95% of playlists)
- Love Story – 94th place
Together, these two hits make her a near-certain choice for any reception looking to mix romance with dance-floor energy. And if Taylor and Travis follow tradition, it’s not hard to imagine Love Story featuring at some point during their big day.
Dance Anthems Rule the Day
One clear trend? Songs about dancing dominate wedding playlists. Half of the top 10 songs — including Dancing Queen, Dancing in the Moonlight, and Shut Up and Dance — have “dance” right in the title.
Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator, explains:
“The numbers show that upbeat, dance-focused tracks are clear winners, which makes perfect sense given they get guests of all ages onto the dancefloor. If Taylor chooses to play a song of her own, Shake It Off and Love Story are sure to fill the floor, appearing in more wedding playlists than any other Taylor hits.”
The Newcomers to Watch
While the classics dominate, fresh hits are starting to sneak their way onto wedding playlists. The standout is Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club”, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year. It already features on nearly 8% of playlists, making it a strong contender for summer weddings.
The Takeaway
From Whitney Houston to Taylor Swift, the perfect wedding playlist blends timeless anthems, crowd-pleasers, and a few personal favorites. And if Taylor and Travis really want to put their own stamp on things? Expect Love Story to be more than just a clever choice — it might just become the soundtrack to one of pop culture’s most talked-about weddings.
