Thinking of popping the big question? You might want to take notes — because a new study just revealed the most romantic states in the U.S., and Rhode Island officially wears the crown.
Texas, Washington, New York, and Ohio round out the top five dreamy destinations to get down on one knee.
The research, by CSDB.gg, looked at how often the word romantic shows up in Tripadvisor reviews for hotels, restaurants, landmarks, and nature spots in each state. Basically, it’s data-driven love science.

Rhode Island: The Proposal Capital 🏆
Tiny state, big romance energy. Rhode Island racks up 2,100 romantic mentions per 100k comments — 50% above the national average for hotels and almost double for nature & parks. Translation: think sunset beach walks and cozy boutique inns that basically do half the proposal work for you.
The Rest of the Top 5 ❤️
- Texas – 1,787 mentions. Its restaurant scene is doing the heavy lifting with romantic vibes 81% above average. Bonus points for spots like the San Antonio River Walk.
- Washington – 1,753 mentions. If you want your “yes” with a side of jaw-dropping nature, this is your place. 77% more romantic reviews for nature than the average.
- New York – 1,734 mentions. Iconic rooftop dinners? Central Park strolls? Yeah, it’s basically a rom-com set waiting for you.
- Ohio – 1,716 mentions. Landmarks and nature score way above the romance benchmark, so don’t sleep on the Midwest for love.
