I have to compare Regina George from Mean Girls and Blair Wilder from Gossip Girl because they are the queen of their respective universes.

I love them both so much because they’re both so iconic.

I’m going to compare Regina and Blair based on nine markers of comparison to see who is ultimately living the best lifestyle. I’m going to compare their love lives, friendships, fashion sense, career trajectories, family bonds, who had fewer crashouts, athleticism, who’s more of a savage, and who has more it girl energy.

I’ll tally all the points in the end and tell you the winner, and it’s all based on my personal opinion from the millions of times that I’ve binge-watched Gossip Girl and watched and re-watched Mean Girls. I will start with their love lives.

Love life

I think it’s pretty obvious who’s the winner between Regina and Blair when it comes to having a better love life, but I’ll still share my thoughts anyway. As far as Regina goes, she didn’t have a love life anyone should desire in Mean Girls. She had a toxic on-and-off relationship with Aaron Samuels. She cheated on him with Shane Oman. She seemingly only regained attraction to Aaron when she found out Katie had a crush on him because she wanted to boost her own ego by reminding herself that he was her territory and proving she could still pull him if she wanted. That’s not real love.

And there’s an ongoing fan theory that Regina was a closeted lesbian or bisexual girl in the film, which relates to the initial rumor drama she had with Janice Ian, where she accused Janice of having an obsessive crush on her. The fan theory is that Regina was projecting, and she ended the movie as a super aggressive lacrosse player, getting her aggression out from her sexual repression, and the fact that she’s spent so much time denying her own sexuality. That’s a fan theory that hasn’t been confirmed, so take it for what it’s worth.

But regardless, Regina ended Mean Girls single, so her love life compared to Blair Waldorf, obviously isn’t going to be the winner.

Blair went through many highs and lows on the roller coaster of love with Chuck Bass, and on the in-between years, she hooked up with other guys who weren’t all that great, like Marcus Beaton and Carter Baizen. She also dated guys who idolized her and fell head over heels in love with her like Prince Louis and Dan Humphrey. She was the one who broke both of their hearts, if you can recall.

Ultimately, she had her happily ever after love story with Chuck Bass, and they ended Gossip Girl as husband and wife, so Blair gets the point here.

Friendships

Regina’s friendships in Mean Girls compared to Blair’s friendships in Gossip Girl are actually very comparable, thanks to their queen bee status as the leaders of their social circles.

In Regina’s world on Mean Girls, she ruled her school as the most popular girl and the leader of the Plastics. Gretchen and Karen fell in line to follow her rules, kiss up to her, and stay on her good side. Karen was often in La La Land, but Gretchen was consistently going out of her way to be a perfect friend and follower to Regina.

But there was something very toxic about that dynamic. Their friendship was built on twisted secrecy, diabolical lies and rumors, and feeding off of each other’s insecurities. By the end of Mean Girls, Regina sort of chilled out and figured out how to operate in a more peaceful way among other people from different cliques.

In Blair’s world on Gossip Girl, she served as the leader of her minions, who were only ever interested in following her rules and staying on her good side as well. Minions like Kati, Isabelle, and Hazel looked to Blair because they saw her leadership skills as something undeniably impressive.

However, there was definitely an element of toxicity to Blair’s social circle, and her connection with her minions. Since I feel like Regina and Blair both spent most of their time being feared rather than loved by their friends, I don’t feel like either of them had a healthier social circle than the other.

I’m going to have to give them a tie on this one, so they’ll both get a point.

Fashion

Let’s talk fashion for Regina George in Mean Girls and Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl. Regina’s style in Mean Girls revolved around looking cute, trendy, and oftentimes super sexy, so she would always stand out in every room.

I can recall multiple outfits from Regina that stood out to me while watching Mean Girls, have legitimately gone down in history, and are even used as Halloween costumes more than two decades later.

The scene where Regina rocked the little white tank top that said “a little bit dramatic” on the front with a pink cardigan and black miniskirt will never be forgotten. Her off-the-shoulder, black long-sleeve top with jeans and jewelry will never be forgotten. And don’t even get me started on the sexy bunny costume she wore for Halloween, which definitely reminded me of Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, by the way.

Blair’s fashion on Gossip Girl was also always interesting to see. In high school, she was similar to Regina in the sense that she also dressed super preppy and put together. No detail out of place. She rocked her school uniform on weekdays and kept it classy and upscale on the weekends too.

And she carried that energy through her college years on Gossip Girl. For this reason, I have to give Regina and Blair a tie, because I really like how both of them dress and their respective universes.
