Nothing beats a spectacular wedding dessert, but we understand that every wallet has constraints.

And if the price per piece of wedding cake is causing you financial stress, don’t dismiss the notion entirely.

Instead, communicate freely with your cake maker, use your imagination, and follow these simple guidelines to avoid having to forego this delectable detail.

Go for a tiny cake

Purchase a tiny showcase cake. Request a one or two-tiered cake for display and cutting, with a sheet cake in the rear to serve the remainder of the celebration. Maintain simplicity.

You’ll cut the tiny cake in a traditional manner with your new spouse, but everyone in the back will enjoy slices of (much cheaper) sheet cake.

Reconsider sugar flowers

Sugar flowers, towering layers, and detailed piping can rapidly raise your cake’s cost. This is because most cake bakers charge by “touch time,” which is the quantity of labor and number of hours spent creating the cake.

If you must have flowers, use real blooms or flat patterns such as painted floral themes rather than ornate sugar flowers.

Surround your cake with affordable treats to make it look more magnificent

Once you’ve decided on your cake exhibit, concentrate on filling the space around it with additional (less expensive) treats, colorful linen from home, lush greenery, old family wedding pictures, candles, or flowers to add some life to the table.

Instead of serving a dish at each place setting, serve slices on a buffet or cake table—or have the staff deliver bite-size sections directly to your guests at the dance place so they will enjoy cake while getting down.

Opt for buttercream over fondant

Typically, buttercream is less costly. Fondant, on the other hand, necessitates additional stages and materials and can be challenging to work with, increasing its cost. However, do your homework, and don’t presume that using frosting will save you money.

Settle on a naked cake

Naked cakes are not only gorgeous to look at, but they’re also actually pretty practical too. They use less buttercream and take less time so less expensive.

Instead of spending additional money on favors, have slices of your cake packed in to-go cases so your visitors can take their dessert with them as they leave.
