Love triangles in Hollywood are a dime a dozen, but the story that unfolded between The Weeknd, Bella Hadid, and Selena Gomez stood out for being extra dramatic and intense.
The relationship between The Weeknd and Bella obviously lasted much longer, but Selena made quite an impact on him as well.
The Weeknd has been known to express himself through his lyrics… and he has said a lot! His brutal honesty has been shocking in some moments and refreshing in others. Interestingly enough, all three of these individuals have moved on.
Bella is dating Marc Kalman, Selena is rumored to be dating Zayn Malik, and The Weeknd is dating Simi Khadra. Here are some of the things he said about Bella and Selena in his song lyrics.
His love for Bella died
In his song “Hardest to Love”, The Weeknd sings the lyrics: “You try with me so many times… and what we had is dead inside.”
Most of his fans and followers believe he was alluding to his on-and-off relationship with Bella that spanned from 2015 to 2019 when he wrote those lyrics. The fact that he mentioned trying so many times definitely sounds like the pattern of an on-and-off romance.
He helped Selena heal from her Justin Bieber heartbreak
In his song “Call Out My Name”, The Weeknd sings, “We found each other. I helped you out of a broken place. You gave me comfort. But falling for you was my mistake.”
When The Weeknd and Selena first linked up, she was going through an emotional breakup with Justin Bieber.
Fans assume he helped her out of the broken place of heartbreak and pain, making him look back at his relationship with Selena with some regret.
He referenced Coachella, where he and Bella were spotted kissing
In the song “Snowchild”, The Weeknd sings, “She never need a man, she what a man need. So I keep on falling for her daily. We was at Coachella going brazy.”
Reports say that the two were spotted kissing at Coachella despite the fact that Bella denied those rumors. He clearly referenced Coachella in response to the tabloid reports.
He was proud to claim… both women
In the song “Call Out My Name”, The Weeknd sings, “I put you on top, I put you on top. I claimed you so proud and openly. And when times were rough, when times were rough I made sure I held you close to me.”
These lyrics could be about both Selena and Bella because he was proud to show PDA with both young women during his relationships. He could be singing about either one or both.
He referenced Bella’s collaborative brand and called her an expletive
In the song “Escape From LA”, The Weeknd sings, “She a cold-hearted b*tch with no shame. But her throat too fire. She got Chrome Hearts hangin’ from her neck.”
Bella has collaborated with the fashion brand Chrome Hearts on many occasions… it is safe to assume he is referring to her with these lyrics.
He was willing to offer Selena a kidney
In the song “Call Out My Name”, The Weeknd sings, “I said I didn’t feel nothing, baby, but I lied. I almost cut a piece of myself for your life.”
This is almost 100% certainly in reference to the fact that Selena needed a kidney transplant. According to his lyrics, he was almost going to be the one to donate her a kidney. Fortunately, her close friend Francia Raisa was able to donate the kidney.
He didn’t want to see Bella cry
In the song “Save Your Tears,” The Weeknd sings, “I saw you dancing in a crowded room. You look so happy when I’m not with you. But then you saw me, caught you by surprise. A single teardrop falling from your eye.”
He possibly was referring to an incident that allegedly took place on a night out in August of 2019. TMZ reported that the two showed up at the same club. After Bella noticed The Weeknd was there, she quickly made an exit from the nightclub.
He felt like Selena wasted his time
In the song “Call Out My Name”, The Weeknd sings, “Guess I was just another pit stop. ‘Til you made up your mind. You just wasted my time.”
Harsh lyrics, if you ask us! Fans speculate that he is referring to Selena’s choice to briefly reconcile with Justin very quickly after she and The Weeknd broke up.
If these lyrics are indeed about Selena, The Weeknd felt used by her since he compared himself to a pit stop.
He spited Bella by Dating Selena
In the song “After Hours”, The Weeknd sings, “I know I made you fall. Then said you were wrong for me. I lied to you, I lied to you, I lied to you. Can’t hide the truth, I’d stay with her in spite of you.”
When fans listened to this song they immediately assumed he was telling Bella that he would stay in a relationship with Selena out of spite.
He kissed Selena’s surgery scars
In the song “Try Me”, The Weeknd sings, “Don’t you mess with me. The way I kissed your scars. The way I fixed your heart. Don’t you mess with me, babe.”
It is easy to assume that he is singing about kissing the surgery scars that Selena had on her body after her kidney transplant.
