The on-and-off romance between Halle Bailey and rapper DDG has been making headlines since they were first spotted together at one of Usher’s Las Vegas concerts in January 2022.
Since then, the premiere of the live-action version of The Little Mermaid in theaters has turned Halle into a bona fide movie star.

DDG’s support of Halle in The Little Mermaid was heavily questioned by the masses on May 7, 2023, when he revealed that he’s never seen the animated version of the beloved Disney film.
In the now-deleted tweet via The Shaderoom, he wrote, “Should I watch the cartoon of The Little Mermaid before I watch the live-action version? Or just watch the new one. [I’ve] never seen it.”
Loads of fans flooded into his response section wondering why he didn’t know more about the massively iconic role his girlfriend landed for herself.
Some fans even accused him of trolling Halle based on his own insecurities over her undeniable success.

Months before posting that tweet on December 3, 2022, DDG dropped a song called “In Love With a Mermaid” on YouTube.
It seemingly showcased his genuine support of his talented other half. The closing line of the song boldly says, “I’ma love you from Thursday to Thursday / Not a human, I’m in love with a mermaid.”
Unfortunately, rumors about their first breakup surfaced shortly after that in February 2023.
In a now-deleted tweet, DDG posted, “All these girls the same, ain’t no way.” His words prompted fans to wonder if he was referring to none other than Halle.
On top of that, the duo unfollowed each other on social media. To make matters worse, he scrubbed all traces of her from his social media pages.
In a confusing turn of events, they were seen on the red carpet of the Vanity Fair Oscar party in Los Angeles in March 2023 as if everything was back to normal.

More drama between Halle and DDG unfolded while she was doing red carpet press in early May 2023 for The Little Mermaid with her costar, Jonah Hauer-King.
Jonah (who plays Prince Eric) held hands with Halle while photographers snapped some incredibly precious pictures of them together.
While the pictures certainly turned out absolutely adorable, DDG wasn’t pleased. At the time, he blocked Halle on both Twitter and Instagram, according to Perez Hilton. She clapped back by blocking him back on both social media platforms.
Since Halle and Jonah are simply co-stars who were trying to show support for each other with their platonic hand-holding session, things quickly turned back around for Halle and DDG.
Later that month, following the official release of The Little Mermaid in theaters, Halle made sure to let everyone know she and DDG are on the best of terms in a viral TikTok video.
She uploaded a clip of herself running towards DDG to embrace him with a hug and kiss.
With more than 9.6 million views so far, it’s clear she wants the world to know where she currently stands with DDG. Diehard fans of Halle added comments saying things like, “Why? I thought this was over!” and “Now, don’t mess this up DDG.”
Ultimately, it’s very possible that The Little Mermaid was the cause of some unfortunate drama between Halle and DDG over the last several months.
