Fans of Selena Gomez are still a bit curious to know why she chose to skip out on the 2022 Oscar Awards and Grammy Awards.
Interestingly enough, she was reportedly invited to host the Oscars ceremony alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Martin and Short are Gomez’s co-stars on Only Murders in the Building, but the entire trio rejected the offer to host the awards show as a team.
Gomez didn’t end up attending the ceremony at all, but it makes a lot of sense why she didn’t go.
The Oscars are dedicated to presenting movie awards and since Only Murders in the Building is a TV show, it wasn’t eligible for any nominations. She still likely would have attended the ceremony had it not been for scheduling conflicts though.
Selena Gomez is a busy woman
She was busy filming Season 2 of her show in New York City and since the 2022 Oscars ceremony took place in Hollywood, she simply wasn’t able to make it.
She was photographed on set before grabbing dinner with Cara Delevingne in the Big Apple.
Seeing Gomez focusing her energy on Only Murders in the Building has been refreshing since her acting career is such a huge deal to her dedicated fan base.
Spring Breakers and Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place are arguably two of Gomez’s most memorable roles and both date back to 2012.
She’s starred in other roles between 2012 and 2023 of course, but her new mysterious show centered around investigative true crime is garnering the most excitement a decade later.
Selena Gomez skipped the 2022 Oscars and Grammys – and that’s perfectly fine
As far as the Grammy Awards go, Gomez was nominated for her first-ever Grammy award. Gomez’s Revelación was up for Best Latin Pop Album, and there was a good chance she would win.
With over 412 million followers on Instagram playing her songs on repeat, her odds were looking good.
Just about a year ago, Gomez opened up about how frustrated she was with not being taken seriously in the music industry.
The Grammy nomination was possibly exactly what was needed to change Gomez‘s mind. She clarified in the past that she has no interest in retiring from music which means her fans can breathe easy knowing she’s not planning to slow down anytime soon.
Ultimately, despite her nomination, Gomez skipped that event also. She never publicly spoke up about her reasons for being a no-show, and the award ultimately ended up going to fellow nominee Alex Cuba.
