The legendary Miley Cyrus just opened up about what it feels like going on tour… And it isn’t good.
Miley’s fans might feel excited about the prospect of seeing her perform live in concert, but it might not actually be the best thing for the talented pop star and her mental health.
In a series of TikTok videos, the Hannah Montana actress broke down the reality of how it feels to her whenever she goes on tour.
Here’s what she said.
Going on tour is not exactly a vibe for Miley Cyrus
Miley took to TikTok to open up about tour life with honesty and candor.
When asked about it specifically, she said, “That’s what people don’t really understand about touring — is the show is only 90 minutes, but that’s your life.
“If you’re performing at a certain level of intensity and excellence, there should be an equal amount of recovery and rest.
“There’s a level of ego that has to play a part that I feel gets overused when I’m on tour. And once that switch is on, it’s hard to turn it off.
“I think when you’re training your ego, every single night to be active — that’s the hardest switch for me to turn off.”
Performing songs on stage in front of so many people takes a huge amount of energy and vigor. She puts on a great show, which means she’s exerting A LOT.
Miley went on to say, “Having every day the relationship between you and other humans being subject and observer isn’t healthy for me, because it erases my humanity and my connection and without my humanity [and] my connection I can’t be a songwriter, which is my priority.”
She described performing as something that is “not natural” because “It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people then you are alone.”
Miley undoubtedly isn’t the only performer to feel this way, but she’s certainly a star who’s able to eloquently state her piece.
Despite everything she revealed in the TikTok video, she didn’t say anything about canceling her tour dates or giving up on live performances forever.
It’s possible tour dates won’t always be something on Miley’s docket in the future as she does more to protect her inner peace and mental health.
